Hey everyone!

So while I was on my way to work today my car decided to just stall! I fiddled around under the hood for about 5 seconds, (I know nothing about cars!) and then walked the rest of the way to work. Thankfully I only live 2 miles from work and I was half way there.

My boss helped me out a lot today and I'm so very grateful to him! We got it towed and $628.49 (I will never forget those numbers!) later I will have my car back tomorrow afternoon. The fuel pump went which I found out is very common in Chevy Cavaliers. I asked my boss if I could borrow a horse (I work at a riding stable) and if I had a place for a horse he would.

I'm trying to look at the positive side of this whole thing which is really hard with such big numbers in the way. But I was suppose to go to my mom's house last night, it probably would have happened then and I would have been stranded in the dark. Or it could have happened while my BF was driving it to work on the highway.

I should have sold my car instead of my horse!

Yep!

My friend told me today that her sister's BF could have done it for me for $150... :wall:

Nope I did not take it to the dealership I was too far from one. Towing would have been ridiculous. Isn't the dealership more expensive?

I've had nothing but issues with this car since I bought it almost two years ago. I miss my Malibu!!!! :(

I called my mechanic because I felt like it was a rip off but he said fuel pumps can cost any where from $400-$600 and then include labor, and the tow. My mechanic could have probably done the lower end of the spectrum but it would have cost me an arm and a leg to pay for towing.

I wish my friend would have found out yesterday that the sister's BF could have done it for practically nothing!!!! GRR!!!!

I guess it cost so much because it was an in tank kind of fuel pump. Either way what's done is done and my car is running again!

I looked up the fuel pump prices when you first posted this and they're anywhere from around $60 to just under $300 for a Cavalier, depending on the model. Lot of difference

I had a Cavalier years ago and the only thing I ever replaced on it other than brake pads and spark plugs was the water pump, but it was only $30.

The bill is in my car but the break down was something like this...

Fuel pump- just under $400 like $380 something
Labor- $150
Tow- $65
Tax- between $60-$70

I had my Malibu for the same amount of time that I've had this car (2 years) about the same amount of miles (just over 100,000) and never had an issue with it. I miss my Malibu. I've had problems with this car from the moment I drove it off the lot. I will never buy another car from the dealership I got this one at.
