The other day at work, I stood up from cleaning and a sharp pain went up my spine. After going to the ER (the pain was bad to the point where I was screaming bloody murder and couldn't stand on my own) and getting Valium/Lortab and muscle relaxers, I went to my chiropractor to find out I ruptured a disc in my back.

My parents drove up here to pick my puppies up since I can't take care of them (I can't bend down), and so now one of my only sources of happiness and sanity are gone. My finacee is always busy and all of my friends live 1.5 hours away, and I'm generally just miserable. :(

Did your chiropractor do an MRI? How can he know positively that you ruptured a disc? I hope you didn't. But you might have.

I just went through the same thing. It started in July. I couldn't be upright at all and was crawling to get anywhere. I ended up in a wheel chair...couldn't walk for a few weeks and have spinal stenosis also so my leg was in pain and numb sometimes. I know the pain you're in and I am so sorry for you. It is excrutiating, isn't it. It's the worst pain I ever experienced. Hopefully those pills will kick in soon for you. There is no healing without surgery. It doesn't fix itself. However, these things often get so they feel better. Finally, the inflamation goes down usually and as the vertabra erodes a little, it gives more space so the disc isn't rubbing so hard on it. (If yours is like mine) I can now do just about anything I did before except I'm not suppose to lift much weight at all or do any resistance type exercise. I know one guy though, who never did get to feeling right, had to use a cane and just couldn't walk. This went on for a year and finally he did have the surgery and is fine now. But I believe most of these things get to feeling better on their own. The thing is, I'm so paranoid of having a relapse so I'm super careful about everything I do. I stepped hard in the snow...foot jolted down and I thought, "Oh no!" It hurt. But nothing ended up happening so far.

Anyhow, take care of yourself. Take your pills and hopefully the inflammation will go down and make you feel better.

Rest, take the pills, and don't overdo anything. I pulled the muscle in my back 9 weeks ago, went for 6 weeks of therapy and still an not 100% yet. Sending healing vibes your way.
