Not necessarily for the fleas, but for the ticks OMG!!! I was out at the new house last night cleaning up the contractors' trash out of the yard which is in the woods. (McDonalds bags and wrappers, soda cans, lollipop sticks, you name it) Anyway, I could feel the ticks crawling on me. I stripped in the driveway and my husband and I took about 25 off of me. I picked off 3 more on the way home and 8 more after I got home. None of them had attached, but I'm so allergic to ticks that i get welps on my skin from them crawling on it.

Somewhere in there, I saw ticks on the dogs. I went to get them off and they were already almost dead. Which is why I need frontline plus for humans :D

Oh, husband and son...NOT ONE SINGLE TICK. I'm a tick magnet!

Anyway, what can I do? Is there something I can have sprayed in the yard? Is there any kind of bug repellent that will help? I hate ticks. They landed me at the dr's office last summer. Round of steroids and some kind of cream...

Anykind of bug repellent with DEET. Believe me, that stuff works. They key is, you have to put it EVERYWHERE, including your face and hair. Many long field exercises in high tick areas and not ONE ever got me. :)

Yeah, yeah... I am leaving in like 10 mins! LOL

I've never had one on me....it would freak me out. I'm allergic to the Deet products...any insect repellent for that matter. after working in the yard I run to the shower cause we have other creepy little critters in our woods, not just ticks (which we get more of them in mid-summer to fall) here it is only early April, and last night I was bombarded by skeeters!!!!!!! I HATE when they hang around my ears buzzing...buzzing... my hubby never gets the bites either. I make sure not to ever wear fragrances of any kind, but I seem to be popular with the bug world, too. eeewwwwww...

i just read that seagulls eat the sloughed off skin on whales. Only some seagulls don't wait for it to slough off so they just start taking bites when ever the whale surfaces. Whales fleas!!!! Not that it has a darn thing to do with ticks, but made me think of it! Arent you glad their not in the air you breath everytime you surface? fleas and ticks i mean?

Just a little info on Seven Dust.

The cat
Flea powder

Flea powders need to be applied regularly to effective. If the container says once a week it needs to be once a week. Fluff up the coat and apply all over, then using a damp cloth wipe off the excess. Flea powder can be used on bedding as well. "Seven Dust" is recommended from 4 weeks of age in puppies. Other products may be stronger but can’t be used until 3 or 4 months.

LOL, Smkie. I am glad I'm not a whale!

Now that I think about the Seven Dust, my dad used to use it to get rid of ants. The FIL said if we got all the nails picked up he would come use some kind of magic spray to kill them. (He doesn't want to pop a hole in his precious tractor  )

EWW OMG. Not many things really creep me out but there is something about ticks that's just... eeew! I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread!

I'm a parasite magnet, too. I've found that Puck is right about the insect repellant having to be sprayed just about everywhere, which kinda sucks.. but if you must go into an area that's full of them, it does work.

I'll go get some Deet bug spray tonight. I won't be going back out there until I do. I am so mad at those construction guys. Grr.

My brother has some bug spray that's 95% DEET, uses it for Boy Scout camp, it's called (believe it or not) "Sawyer Maxi-Deet".

Is 'Seven Dust' the same as diatomaceous earth? We use that on ants, too.

We also live in tick country (sometimes I think the tick is Missouri's state animal). I usually pull my socks up over my pants' legs, tuck them into boots, and spray bug spray on my boots and clothes. I tend to wear long sleeves, jeans and a hat even in summer, not only because of ticks but also the horse flies, deer flies, yellow flies, green headed flies...

We just received a notice of a town meeting from a developer - they're putting in a resort for nudists a couple of miles down the road from us and were notifying everyone in the neighborhood. Doesn't bother me, but I can't help wondering how all those nekked people are gonna cope with the ticks, mosquitoes and monster sized horseflies... Guess we'll just have to listen for cussin' and screamin'. Lol!
