There is a wonderful little black dog that lives next door to me named Lady and I don't know if she will make it. I've known her for years and years and she is to be let loose everywhere. She would come and visit me everyday and she is one of the the happiest dogs in the world. She knows no harsh feelings and she always cheers me up when she comes over. She is silly and has a funny snorty sound when she would bound up to you as happy as can be. She is the kind of dog everyone knows and is fond of. She has an adorable little white patch on her nose that has black spots on it. I love this dog.
Today was a day like any other and my friend Brittany (who also loves this dog like I do) were taking a walk. As usual Lady followed us as we watched out for her. We were walking in great moods chatting about our dreams of having horses when suddenly a truck comes whizzing past faster than we can see it.
We hear a horrid yelp and little Lady comes rolling out from underneath the truck as the bumper flies off. We both screamed and the truck went faster and then stopped about 30 yards further. The lady emerged from the car and calmy said "Oos, I'm sorry, the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't see." I yelled something at her and then ran to the neighbor's house.
I knocked on the door hard and another lady came to the door. I told her about the dog and her and her husband/boyfriend fly out to Lady. By now it's obvious that Lady has a broken and/or dislocated hip and she is bleeding profusely out of her mouth. Brittany goes in with the nice lady and gets the # to call the emergency vet.
I'm going to continue the story in less detail because I'm drained and I need to lie down. So people are starting to collect. I called my moma nd she didn't answer her cell so we called Brittany's mom a few times until she answered and she went up to get Lady's owners.
A while later the owners came. They were rushed and obviously upset. The guy, Dan, comes and looks straight at me and says "I can't believe you let her follow you!" I said I wasn't the one who lets her run all over the place and I started breaking down and crying. everyone around said he was being a complete @s$ and that it wasn't my fault. I know it isn't but I still feel so empty and guilty.
So Martha, his wife, is crying and shivering putting her hands on Lady. She starts crying and says she don't think she'll make it (because of the internal bleeding coming out from inside her throat. We stuck her on a board and then she was carried away to the car. They were going to take her to the emergecy vet. Unfortunately, the vet who is open all hours is a FAR way away. So I got hugs from the people involved and Brittany's mom came to pick us off when we were on the road. We bawled the whole way back and we are still wondering if Lady will live.
Martha DID call Brittany's mom and say that Lady has stopped bleeding, which we thought was her organs shutting down, but her stomach isn't distending, which is a pretty good sign. I love that dog and I so hope that she will be ok. I have stopped bawling uncontrollably but I'm still really shaken up. I'm just anxioud because I won't know how Lady is until tomorrow.
I just hope Lady's owners learn their lesson (which they should have learned when their other dog was picked up by the pound and Lady was shot with a BB gun, then gored by a javelina) and KEEP HER CONTAINED.
Please keep Lady in your thoughts.

It is so not your fault. I hate irresponsible owners like that :( I hope she will be ok and they will have learned their lesson.

It is really a shame that ignorant dog owners that let their dogs run loose, don't even have the brains to realize that when the dog get's hit by a car, it is their fault, not the dogs, not the neighbors, not the driver.. etc...... You just happen to have a stupid neighbor.

When I was 13, I got off of our schoolbus in the winter and our neighbors dog followed me across the road - I sent him back, he followed me again, I sent him back, he followed me again - finally a truck came along and hit him and I watched him twitch and bleed until he died. :( The neighbors weren't even home, they left their six month old puppy outside while they went to work everyday.
