Hi, I'm new here!
I have a lovely little Yorkshire Terrier called Casper who was recently (and I mean literally TODAY Wednesday) attacked by another dog. At first he seemed ok, but then when we got home he became very quiet and distant. It isn't usually like him to behave that way.

I just wondered if anybody else has experienced this, whether their dog may have been in shock? And how did you manage to get them to be ok again?

Hope you can help!

The adrenilin his brain has dispersed into his body is sapping his strength. Give him a little sugar water to bring his energy level back to normal. Just a teaspoon every half hour or so for a couple of hours. Are you sure he doesn't have injuries you can't see, like broken ribs or internal injuries? If he doesn't snap out of his lethargy call your vet.

We gave him quite a check over and saw no external injuries, but I think that was helped by his little rain coat he had on. The dog didn't managed to break through it with his teeth.

We're going to take him to the vet to be checked over just in case, because he's quite old as it is and he has bad rheumatism in his two front legs, it may have been made worse because the dog actually jumped on top of him which caused him to fall over on his side.

I'm making an appointment for him in the morning, but I will take on your advice and give him sugar water while he waits.

I hope it helps!

Keep him warm, calm and in a quiet place. Make sure you monitor him...his temp should be between 100.2 and 102.8...any higher or lower and he needs to see a vet NOW. His pulse should be between 100-160 beats per minute. You can find his pulse points either on the inside of his back leg, or just underneath the bend of his elbow on his front legs.

Yorkies are very suseptible to shock and you should probably watch him through the night.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I did watch Casper through the night, he seemed quiet and fell asleep quite quickly.

I gave him some sugar water and that did seem to perk him up a bit!
I'll be taking him to the vet to be checked over in case!

He seems to be ok now but I want to be sure! The dog that attacked him is quite well known down my street, everyone who knows him avoids him because he will bark and go for anyone who goes near itm even children!! And the lady who owns him has no sense of responsibilty for it! I had a few words with her when this all took place but she didn't seem very interested!

Anyway thanks again for all your help! :) Me and Casper appreciate it!!
