A job opened up at my work last week... I got the email memo Friday so the job shouldn't have posted online yet.
It's with a project at Children's mercy... it's mostly admin assistant stuff with some Grant work, drafting grants and stuff... maybe you could work in your major there? The salary is decent, the benefits awesome (it's nonprofit, what else could you expect).

Shoot me a pm if you're interested and I will ask around tomorrow. I am sorry you are having a rough time.. call me whenever you need to talk!

I don't post here too often, but I wanted to let you know I've been in a similar situation, and am sorry you're going through this! I think it's a great idea to take a little while to regroup. If you can, think about what (if any) career goals you have (either what you would like to spend your time doing, or where you would like to be financially) and life goals you have (for example, a long term relationship, or a tight circle of friends). Of course, you might not know right now, and there are always things out of your control, but it helps to have some things to run to, rather than just things to run from.

As far as choosing a place to live, I'm not sure what your relationship is with your family, but often it can be helpful to have either family or close friends nearby - they can help anchor you when you feel adrift.

wishing you the best Zoom--sometimes these things that rattle us, become defining moments in our lives. I hope this one brings you to a wonderful new place!

We can start a club together Zoom. I lost my job about 2 weeks ago, and am trying to figure out what I'm doing with the rest of my life. Absolutely freaking terrified.

My friend Amy is letting me crash on her couch tonight and took me out for Chinese. My fortune cookie said "You are a deep thinker with a knack for problem solving." :p

I'm reverting back to college and want to just get completely blitzed so I can't think anymore, but I have a very long drive ahead of me tomorrow.

Ugh, Zoom. *hug* I wish I could help more than just e-hugs.

I applaud your gusto, though. I know too many folks who would just sit and whine no matter how bad the situation got. At least you're doing your best to push forward.

I'm cheering REALLY hard for you!

I'll get to the sitting and whining point but not until I'm at my parents. Well, I'm sure I'll have a bout of it later but I'm going to wait until the sun goes down at least.

Long story short, the guy I was seeing and was getting ready to move in with, decided that he didn't know what he wanted, so he was going to try out another woman. This guy also owns the bar I worked at (footnote: we were dating before he bought the place) so it's all just finished at the same time.

Very true. Small blessings.

Have you thought about going back to school? Getting an MBA or M. Ed or MSW or something to apply your english degree? Or are you done with school?

I'm done with school. The friends I'm staying with tonight are both doing their Masters/PhD and all I can think is "Wow I'm glad I'm not doing that anymore."

Any further schooling I will have will be dog related, most likely in the training/behavioralist venues. Perhaps with a foray into how to become a pro photographer or at least promote myself like one.

Fair enough--my husband's like that too. He has no desire to ever sit in a classroom again! (Meanwhile, I'm itching to go back like crazy)

I'll cross my fingers you can find a job/training in a field you're interested in :)
