I have foot in mouth disease big time! I was walking Zoe the other day, and passed a lady walking her very obese beagle on the path. This poor dog could hardly walk- he waddled slowly. I have never seen such a fat dog.

We walked past them up to a grassy area where people let their dogs off leash. There was a man there with his daschund (hope I'm spelling that right). Zoe and he started playing so the man and I started chatting a bit. Eventually the lady and the obese dog made their way to where we were. The beagle waddled up to where the man and I were, and his owner was still on the path out of earshot. I said, "Can you believe how fat this dog is? I mean, it's really unhealthy!" the man replied "Well, as soon as we got him neutered he got fat, but we're trying to keep him on a diet". OH GOD they were together! He left quickly after. I really felt bad, but seriously the poor dog is going to have major health problems, so maybe it wasn't such a bad thing that I said that.

ROFL. Smile, you're on candid camera.

You know what Scooter? Maybe you embarrassed them just enough to haul their butts and get that poor dog down to a healthy weight.

Someone told me yeterday that their obese beagle must be half bulldog, no matter what the shelter said because it has a bulldog body with a little beagle head and feet! I tried to gently suggest less snacks and more walks.

Is this the new excuse for fat dogs- say their part bulldog or mastiff, depending on size?

WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!:lol-sign: I am surprised I haven't died from it yet or at the very least had someone take aim at me............especially on the net where I seem to have a terrible time conveying what I mean..........without stepping on somebodies toes.

That's kind of the equivalent of Cartman saying he's not fat, he's big boned.

Oh god I know. I see so many fat daschunds. They're little feet can barely reach the ground. I have never had a fat animal. I dont know how some of my lazy cats stayed slim. My dumb dad wont spay his dog b/c he says she will get fat.

Just to be safe I never ask that, lol. My SIL is looks preggy but she's not. She is small evrywhere but her belly is kinda fat and people ALWAYS ask about her "baby". To make matters worse she and her husband have been trying to get preggy for 2 yrs and had no luck so far. She's really depressed about it. I also have a best friend shaped the same way and she gets that comment a lot so I dont care how preggy someone looks I dont say ANYTHING unless I know for sure.

not as bad as my mom asking my neighbor if she was "expecting". (she wasn't)

OH. LMAO. Sorry, Scooter! But. . .LOL! I sincerely hope that was enough of a wake up call for them to think about helping that dog to lose weight. I really am sick of seeing overweight dogs.
Grammy, I learned that lesson through my grandma, who was mortified when she asked that question and was completely wrong. Eek.

Because beagles and labs always act like they have never seen food before and are starving (STARVING!) so people seem to figure they should feed them more.

Why do people always let beagles and dachshunds get obese? Oh, and labs. Yyyyep.
Cockers.. Can't tell you the number of times people have told me Cider is obviously a mix.. Why? Because she's not *fat* enough to be a cocker. Apparently the belly on the ground drag is proof positive you have a cocker spaniel. *pukes*

Goldens tend to put on weight. My Golden Retriever Brody has a thyroid problem and is on Soloxine now but he is still a little overweight. I would watch what you say because it could be an illness the dog has. Not that I would get mad because I am a very easy going person but believe me not everyone is.:lol-sign: I don't know if Beagles suffer with this but my vet said a lot of Goldens have thyroid issues and that is what was causing his ear infections. Since he has been on the thyroid pills he has not had one ear infection.:) :hail: So if any of your dogs are having recurring ear infections go get a thyroid test done.:)

Oh God. I cannot tell you the numbers of times I have done this. Want to know what's even worse? I don't even notice I've done something that I should feel embarassed about for hours later. Talk about being oblivious to the world.
