Please someone help me out with this..its got me pretty stressed now...

I feed the dogs cabbage rolls occassionally...which contain a little bit of fried and then baked onions...so they are far from raw..

I know onions are toxic, but I always assumed it was in its raw state....
Either way, I don't give alot of the cabbage rolls, and its occassional, so I never even bothered to think that it would hurt them.

Today, on another forum, I was informed that onion toxicity builds up in the dog's system over time..meaning you can give even a shrivel of cooked onion to a dog once a week..but over time it will build up in toxicity in the dog's body..so it doesn't digest it or filter it out? How is that possible?

Anyways, it got me all worried that I put my dogs in alot of danger now..and that one day I'm going to come home to alot of trouble..

Is this true what this person told me? What should I do?

Someone help....please? Mordy? Anyone?
:(

Can you ask your vet? They are the best person(s) to ask.

Another thought.. why do you feed your dog something that you know is toxic?

Because not all foods are toxic when in a cooked state...I'm not feeding onions by themselves as a snack or food..I'm feeding a food that contains a small amount of cooked onions..that is my concern.

I have always heard that onions build up toxicity over time as well... but I am not exactly sure why, or if it is entirely true.

Not only are onions are bad but also grapes, which in turn would include rasins. It's the skins of the grapes that contain the toxicity.

I'm not sure of how or why but this information did come from the vet's office that I work at. I'm not sure if raw or cooked make any difference. I just try not to feed my dogs any onions or grapes or anything that would contain either.

I don't see how that's possible pitbulliest. I could be wrong but I'm not sure how it builds up. I have never worried about feeding a bit of fried onion to the dogs if they were getting table scraps that included it and they've never had a problem. I'll have to look into that more.

So in other words the cells that are damaged are replaced over time...well that makes sense...I thought its like a point of no return once you feed a bit of onion..that it stays in the dogs system for life..

phew...

I will just avoid any foods containing it for my dogs then...but that helps lol I feel a bit better.
