What are they thinking? I was telling a friend of my husband's that when I take Zoe out to the coast, she goes absolutely crazy over the paragliders (probably in part because my husband paraglides). She barks and pulls on the leash and is almost impossible for me to control. His advice (an expert since he does not have a dog and hasn't since childhood) is to "yank back so hard on the leash that it sends Zoe into the air. It's ok, it won't hurt her, and she'll learn not to do that". Um, gee ok thanks. Seriously what do you say to people who give advice like this?

I tend to be very sarcastic and to the point with people so my response would've been something along these lines, let's put the leash on you and yank so hard that you fly into the air, maybe you'll learn not to give such assinine advice...

I constantly have none dog owners telling what I should do with my dogs. I even had a lady who flipped because I brought one of my dogs into a pet store...:yikes:

I would quickly point out to him that his advice completely contradicts all the research on the damage done from jerking a dog around. And then to back up my point, I would print it off and hand it to him the next time I saw him.

I'd probably be with shazbot.

"You know? That's an excellent way to collapse a dog's trachea!"

Ugh I saw someone do this to a PUPPY one time when I was walking Maggie past her on the sidewalk, and the puppy got excited and pulled on the leash. It made me sad.

People who don't have kids or dogs really need to MYOB when dealing with those of us who do!

I would have told him I would be happy to take his sage advice if he would be kind enough to pay for the surgery required to repair a damaged trachea.
