I found Ashten and couldn't even stand up, so I knew what I had to do. He had been suffering with hyperthyroidism for a long time, and I decided he wasn't going to suffer any more. My sister drove to the vet, and we were there with Ashten when he died. I will miss him. :(

I am going to the farm to feed animals now and I won't be able to get online until tomorrow AM.

Goodbye Ashten. :( :(

I know well the struggle you went through. Ashten is well again and thankful for what you've done for him.

Ashten is out of pain and in a better place. I know he is with my Bear right now playing and running. Ashten will be in your heart and memories forever.

Aw Sweet, I'm so sorry. I know hyperthyroidism can be controlled for awhile, but it does catch up. Happened to my RIP Mousely. One day they just get like that. You did the kind thing but I know it still hurts. Rest well, Ashten.

Aw, that is such a difficult thing to do but the most loving gift you can give to your sweet cat. He's no longer suffering.
RIP Ashten!

It is the most loving gift you can give. I am so sorry though, that you are missing him and hurting right now. In time, you'll remember mostly all the good times and will feel better. RIP Ashten.

I'm doing ok. Thanks for asking. :) I think it just hit my other kitty last night that Ashten wasn't coming back. She just walked around meowing (loudly!). We have been giving her extra attention. Siam and Ashten were together for a long, long time. We're thinking of taking Siam to the shelter to pick a friend. But we haven't decided when we are going to do it yet.

Yeah it hits them sooner or later. Happened with my cats last week after I put Bianca to sleep. They have this cutoff point and they watch you take things that were the other cat's away and it clicks.

I had to put my Bago down this summer due to kidney failure. It had been a long struggle, but in the end, we knew that it was over, and I think he did too. You did the right thing for him . . . when its time . . . its time.

It sound a little cold, but we actually went to the shelter and got Shadow the same day that Bago was put down. Our other cat had seen the body (we made sure she had the chance to) and we figured that it would be better if she didn't get used to being an only cat. I think getting Shadow (who, by design, looks nothing like Bago) helped . . . its hard to explain why . . . he's not a replacement for Bago . . . more of an affirmation that life goes on . . . and there are other worthy animals who need my help more than I need my grief
