I went to Wal-Mart this morning. There was a truck parked near my car, and there was a boxer in the bed of the truck. Pretty common sight, but as I walked by the truck on my way into the store, I noticed that the poor dog looked horrible. He was dirty, one eye was extremely red and puffy-looking, and he was extremely skinny. I could see his ribs, his backbone and his hips clearly. :(

I had my cell phone, so I went in the store, found a phone book and called animal control. I told them where the truck was parked, the condition/sex/color of the dog, and the vehicle's license plate. When I left the store awhile later, I saw two animal control officers by the truck, looking over the poor boxer.

I'm glad I called. I hope they were able to do something to help that sad dog. What disgusted me the most is that the truck looked brand-new. The owners could afford a truck, but not dog food. Sad.

More people should take that kind of initiative. Most people are so wrapped up in their own world that they don't want to be troubled by other peoples problems.

Gempress... I'm so happy you did that. It takes people like you to make a difference... this can only help and not hurt...

Yes I would say that you help that poor dog. I hope the owners get the boxer taken away from them for the dog's sake.

Yes you diefinatly helped! I had something similar happen in may while walking my dogs with some friends. A dog ran up to us and wouldn't leave(my guess was he probably ran so far he din't know which way home was) so we turned around and tried to keep the dog right next to me cuz I had no extra leashes and followed us home and then we let my dogs in and took him to the shelter.(collar no tags)

Good for you! Can you call animal control and get an update? I'm curious and I bet you are too. I hope he gets a new home.

Yeah...Great Idea, I would love to hear how it turned out. I saved a puppy once from a teenager beating it and the Humane Society kept me posted all the way through to adoption. They wouldn't give me the name of the people (understandable) who adopted but they gladly gave me all the other details. I still have his (puppy's) picture.

Keep us posted if they do.

Gem, good going. Hopefully, that poor Boxer will have a good loving home because of you. :)

Good job Gem! I'm curious also if any action was taken. Animal Control must have gotten there quick. That's encouraging also.

i wonder how many other people walked past and didn't even notice or if they did thought it wasn't their problem. Good for you. someone has to step up for all the babies in the world that cannot protect themselves.

I was surprised at how fast they showed up. But I guess it was early on a weekday, so it wasn't that busy in this small town. I think I might try to call and see what happened to the poor thing.
