Today was the big day only because Jacob broke out of his pen and we found him with Precious his morning but we are not sure if they locked. SO today we penned them together and we are going to leave them together for a few days just to be sure... Then I was thinking I would stick him in with harmony because I know she is in heat she is now 7 months old... harmony and Jacob are white with brown and Precious is more brown than white. I will have to get you some photos this breeding was made in heaven. I have a friend who want sone of preciouses babies. :) I have not made up my mind if I want to breed Harmony but I think it may be best to wait till 8 months. Yeah I guess so...
Mandie!
I will post pics when they are born! OOOOOh I cant wait!!!!!!

Now, I dont know much about goats.. but isn't 7months of age a little young for a Goat to be bred?? Especially on purpose...

Would that be her first heat as well.

Horses aren't even bred until they are at least 4yrs old - or shouldn't be until then anyways.

Lol I thought you were about to tell us that you decided you wanted kids all of the sudden.

Man I wish I'd payed attention to the goats part of animal science. I think 7 months is still too young though. I know cows are bred at a year but, goats?

Your guess is probably better than mine.

As someone who breeds goats and sheep, and horses, etc etc on a regular basis - 7 months *is* a bit young but it's not unheard of. We prefer to wait til a year but it depends on the does and ewes, since the animals we breed are primarily for meat.

As for horses, four years old is hogwash. In the wild they breed as young as 18 months and do fine. Do I breed mine at 18 months? No, but I have bred a two year old. Breeding at two is far less detrimental to their health than riding them at two! Furthermore, when bred at two, they actually FOAL at three, so not so bad. Then again - there are some mares that should NEVER be bred, no matter how old they are. :p

Yeah he is quite huge....he makes some of the cows I work with Jealous.... I actually had made my mind up to wait a while to breed harmony. On a sheep forum I was told it would be ok to breed her B/c she would give birth when she was 11-12 months. though that is not my idea. I was planning on waiting to breed both around the same time so their babies could play... but all Jacob could think about was breeding so he went and broke loose and we are not sure if he bred he wasnt with Precious for more than 5 min.. (My brother saw him get out and ran for me) Jacob is kinda aggressive... He could kill someone if he tried.... so I had to put him away fast. I am actually thinking of studding him out so he can get this out of his system... He isnt eating proper and he is getting thin..... SO far no breeding Precious is a big tease and makes him chase her around and around but she is so sly! Poor Jacob is going to die of a heart attack.. I had to take him out of the pen last night... or he would not have slept.... Jacob is a purebred Barbado Ram HE is pretty rare. He is a fluke of genetics... he is suppose to be more brown (he is not a black bellied barbado) he meets all the standards but color.... He all most looks Katahdin but they cannot have horns and have a diffrent build... Though I like the white in him it suits him.... (his previous owner bred him and he sires regular colored barbado babies..... He is a bottle baby gone wrong................

GLassonion ...my mom would kill me if I told he I was having kids lol!!!!!mmm unless its kids as in baby goats!
