My Hammie will come bat me right off my chair if he has to go out, but my Addie has NEVER done a thing to indicate she has to. Like your dog, she would just hold it. She is now 3 yrs. old....I really don't see her changing, so I just make a mental note as to the time she last went. She is an adult dog, so I know she doesn't have to go out all that frequently.....and I just take her out when I feel she may have to go. That seems to work. At most....she once became somewhat 'nervous'....but she has never, ever gone to the door or otherwise tried to get my attention. It's funny how dogs can be so different. Regarding the other question....sounds like your pup needs more social interaction. Why wouldn't you trust your dad or brother?? I'm sure you'll get better advice from the folks here. :)

You can teach you dog to do a behavior to alert you that he has to go potty before you go outside. You can do this by using bells on your door which you train him to ring before you go outside, or you can teach him to bark before you go outside, for example.

I haven't tried either of these on my puppy yet, but I am going to buy some bells today since I consider it really important.

My parent's dogs were effectively trained to scratch at the door in order to go outside, but I don't know how willing you are to teach your dog that. :)

When people come over and your dog starts to jump, tell him to sit and reward him for sitting and staying. After a while, he will know that this is what he has to do when new people are there. Make sure he does it even when they pet him.

Dogs can't jump and lick while they are sitting politely. :)

Hope this helped!

Oh, and about the bell thing. You can train them to do this by having them touch the bell with their nose every time you take them out, reward them and take them outside. After a while of this repeated behavior, your dog should associate touching the bells with his nose with being let outside, and he will be able to alert you.
