I had to kick a dog today...

My newest neighbors have a schnauzer, named Sadie.

They often let her out offlead when Kona isn't out there. I've warned him about how Kona can get a bit nippy with hyperactive puppies (and trust me, Sadie is one of those!!!).

He had Sadie out, and wasn't watching her. The first thing Sadie did was dart over to Kona.... Kona was actually GOOD, she wasn't acting as if she was going to get bitchy... I did my normal "no no, go home!" to Sadie...

Then Sadie just starts laying into her! :yikes: This dog is a good bit bigger than Kona and could have really really hurt her. I had to kick her.... I feel so bad for doing it, but there is no way in hell another dog is going to hurt mine while I'm standing there!

Don't rag me about it, I feel horrible for kicking Sadie already... if I hadn't done something she would have hurt Kona.

ETA: Kona is alright, not nicks or cuts... just a bit shaken up...

I'm not about to lay into you. I think most people would defend their dogs from another dog. It's better than having to take your dog to the vet and have the other dog's owner blow you off over the costs, plus the police will never do a thing to help you.
I've had it happen a couple of times where some nasty dog has attacked one of mine. And yes I can tell it was an attack and not just snarly roughousing. One time when it happened my dog was limping anyway and not able to defend himself the way he normally would have.
So yes, you better believe I kicked the other dog. Fortunately both times it was of a breed that likes humans but can be dog aggressive. But at the time I didn't care if I got hurt, I just wanted to protect my dogs.

I don't blame you one bit.

I would have kicked that dog too. What did the owner do? Why weren't they trying to get her away from your dog.

it is the other dogs OWNERS fault that their dog got kicked.

idiots.

I would've done it. And I have before. These two Goldens layed into my past pit bull and kicking didn't work the least bit. These dogs had attacked many times before, broke through our fence, killed my friend's Dachshund and broke my neighbor's Rottweiler's leg. They were vicious. Kicking didn't even phase them. Down the pole went. And they ran right back into their yard. Don't feel too bad about it! You did what you had to do for your dog. It's your job to protect your dog. So yay for you. Too many people just stand there and wait for it to end. Often ending in a death.

The owner did nothing. He wasn't outside, and after I had it broken up and had Sadie by the collar, he just said "Sadie, why'd you do that?"

I have done it before at the dog park when some guy with 5 dogs of his own all ganged up on Blaze. I kicked them all while dragging my dog out (who was trying to fight as well). And I accidently kicked my friends dog in the heat of the moment. I dont know what he was doing, but he was in there too. I think he was biting the dogs that were biting blaze, poor guy got kicked in the face. I felt terrible after and checked him out and gave him a hug.

We as pet lovers/owners will do what we can to save ours. dont feel bad.

I have kicked strange dogs before and my own. One of our foster pits got loose and Emma had a bone. They got into it and yes I kicked the pit. Only so i could safely grab his collar. No one will think less of you for protecting your dog

I've kicked dogs that were going after my dog before. I've also pulled tails and yanked collars to break up fights. I would rather kick a dog once and get it away from my dog, then deal with stitches, etc.. because I stood there and did nothing. yelling at them to stop doens't work. you have to take action!

and i'm sorry your neighbors are stupid. I used to bring my dogs to my grandpa's bc they spend all weekend with me and I ALWAYS visit my gramps. Anyway, my cousin is staying there for the summer with his dogs(who I hate) so I don't go out there anymore. First his dog went after Keeda. I had to bring her to the vet bc she was all cut up and limping. So, you would THINK he would keep the dogs in the house while I was out there(which is only like once or twice a week for 2 hours or so) but no. I was out there the following weekend to visit my grandpa, and he lets the dog out again and it goes after Bailey. Luckily bailey's not a fighter so he ran away and just had a couple nicks on his ear. Now, I don't go out there. Which sucks bc I'm really close to my grandpa. Oh, and I think I should mention that my grandpa HATES dogs... and especially hates his dogs bc they go after EVERYONE's dogs, they also bark at everyone and charge them... yet my cousin continues to just let them out of the house(no leash, no tie out, no fences... just roaming the area). My brother had the same problem and doesn't visit anymore either. I don't understand it... why are people like that!??!?!?!

edit: my grandpa has a large piece of land with two houses. My grandpa stays in the main house, and my cousin is in the small cottage. so it's not like i'm visiting a little tiny house where keeping them apart is impossible. It's like having a neighbor. He just has to not let them out of the house he's staying in and everything would be fine. I only go in the mainhouse, and my gramps and I always have tea on the porch with my dogs.

I know your feeling. Sometimes you can help yourself but do something unnecessary. Did you talked to the owner?

Hell I've thrown a dog clear over a ditch for trying to attack my dog. I've kicked them before too. Do I feel terrible while doing it? Of course! Afterwards I feel even worse but I will not risk my own dog's safety because someone cannot control their dog.
