Oh my....

I don't know why I still look at Petfinder. We have no room for another dog. But you wouldn't believe this...I found another blackmouth cur up for adoption at our animal shelter. Zeus's twin. Exact even down to the splotch of white on the chest and the darker area on the tail. He's even the same age (9 months) as Zeus was when we first got him.

Isn't he ADORABLE? Look at that face! I just want to hug him and squeeze him and cuddle him! *Makes silly baby noises*

I do NOT need another dog...I do NOT need another dog...I do NOT need another dog...I do NOT need another dog...I do NOT need another dog...do I?

Help! Anyone else been in this situation?

Maybe same litter? I would get him If i could afford a second dog :)

If i had a bigger yard I would get 2 Caucasians for sure. I thought about it, but I didnt have $$ at the time. Now its too late to get a second one.

Two is WAAAAYYY easier than one! Unbelievably easier . . . Immeasurably easier . . .

You DO need another dog . . . You DO need another dog . . . You DO need another dog . . . You DO need another dog :D

Yes for sure two is easier than one. I cannot wait for Dallas to arrive, since Jessie died it has been hard for Yukon. He misses his buddy and needs his companionship.

If your first dog is well behaved, 2 will be a pleasure - 3 rocks and I am hopefull of having 4 dogs someday. Just got to convince the wife!

You won't regret it if you do :D Here is a quote that I think fits this situation :D you won't like it lol "there are a million reasons why you shouldn't do something when you really only need one reason why you should." idon't think i got that quote quite right but you get the idea :D

i've been having the same dilema. I have a chance on getting a chocolate lab/husky mix puppy for free (well, 80.00 for last shots) A friend's friend's dog got pregnant (not lanned) and he just wants the puppies to go to a good home. I've pleaded with Tony to allow me to scoop one up, BUT its not going to happen. I will never be able to convince him. Ive even said it would be my xmas and birthday presents for two years. LOL I have a chance to go see them today but I won't dare go.

I have 5 dogs, 3 of which a breeder placed in my home (she would try to put more Newf's with me if she could :) ). My Rottweiler and Dobe are rescues. I really never thought it through before I took all these dogs. But, I have my sister living with me so the dogs get tons of love, I get my dog food at cost and the breeder pays for the Newf's. I get vet bills at cost for my rescues and the Newf's are paid for by the breeder.
So, the questions to ask yourself.
Is everyone in the household in agreement?
Do you have money for vet bills for an extra dog, cost of spay/castration, emergencies.
What about dog food, is this going to be hard to feed another mouth due to expenses?
Do you have time to devote training and obedience training to another dog.
Do you have a good location and home for more than 2 dogs? fenced in yard for safe playing etc. I spent over $3,000.00 in fencing for my dogs.
Are there any by laws in your area regarding more than one dog. A breeder I know lived in an area where only 2 dogs were allowed by law. She had to pretend that her 5 dogs were only 2.

I find that "sometimes" having more than 2 dogs can be a lot of work. You also have more poop to get rid of....more poop to clean up. If you have to have your dogs on supplements such as glucosamine you have to fork out more cash in that dept as well.

Go for it, just more protection(lol, don't bite), for those late night walks. I like the idea of a zeus clone. Such cute dogs. Zeus needs his clone. Someone to keep him company. You need the clone, you need the clone.

Gah! Talk about a dilemma. I'm not getting much support at home either. Here's a bit of last night's conversation while watching TV:

Me: I found a blackmouth cur puppy today on Petfinder. It looks just like Zeus! It's soo cute. It has the black mask and everything. But don't worry, I know we don't have room for another dog.

Hubby: Nope, no more dogs.

Me: Definately, no room.

Hubby: No way, no room at all.

(long silence)

Hubby: Ummm...is it really that cute?

The shelter is closed for the weekend and Labor Day, so we have until Tuesday to decide if we wanna take a look at him or not. Talk about your hard decisions!

This calls for a two pronged attack, Avenlee:

1) Take hubby to look at puppies "so I won't get weak and bring one home."

2) Cry quietly when you get in the car to leave without a puppy. If you get all the way home without one, immediately go to your dog and bury your head in his neck. Sniffle for the rest of the night. Stay up late ("can't sleep for some reason").

Now, granted, I've never had to resort to this, as I tend to go ahead and do what I'm going to do, being a great believer in the concept that it's easier to get forgiveness than permission (along with the idea that some things I don't need permission for, lol, but that's another thread) but I've watched some REAL experts pull it off to great effect :D

I wish it worked with my hubbie too...

Renee, I think my husband would lose some of his trust in me if I did that...

I also believe in the Renee strategy. I usually do what I want, but in some cases I do resort to other tatics. I have never been great at the crying game but, if all else fails always resort to s e x it works everytime. Always ask during or right after. They are weak and vunerable at that time. I know, I am such a bad influence.
