For the first time in 24 hours! I have just gone through the most friightening experience of my life with Neon. He seemed a little listless at daycare yesterday, which I assumed was the unfortunate result of having devoured a large bowl of chili the night before (can we say, not a fun night for Neon or Mommy? )
I took him home, and noticed he was limping a little bit on both hind legs and looking very uncomfortable. Money is tight right now, but the vet agreed to see him in about a half hour. I assumed he had pulled something at daycare, and rested him in his crate until his appointment.
I got him out to take him to the vet....and he couldn't WALK! Literally, my precious Neon kept standing up and collapsing as soon as he tried to take a step. I snatched him up and rushed him to the vet, which was luckily only two miles or so away.
Once we were there, Neon was rapidly diagnosed with Tick Paralysis. Long story and many tears later, they removed the tick, and Neon was able to talk out of the office just a few hours later.
I had never heard of such a disease. They told me that he would make a full recovery, and that I was far more traumatized than he was. Has anyone else ever dealt with this?
Neon is thankfully doing great now, as full of himself as ever.
