I am SO mad! *camera people*

I went to my friends going away party last night.. People were drinking, blah blah blah, the normal stuff.

I was taking pictures with a friend when this girl comes over and Deliberatly knocks my camera out of my hands.. Now its broke. It turns on but the lense is f---ed up. When I turn it off the lense doesnt go back into the camera like it should and the things that shut over the actual lens dont close..

When I turn my camera on my lense will move a little bit, then go out again.
The screen is black with the words, Lens error, restart camera..

WTF am I going to do? I just got this 300 dollar fricking camera for christmas.. Mom will KILL me if I cant fix it and I have no Idea what to do.

Pretty bad when you cant even go out in public and take a picture or two without some dumb b*tch messing everything up.

Im beyond pissed.. lol.. Im not a huge fan of violence, But the guy I was there with had to hold me back cuz i would have seriously Limbed her.

Any advice what-so-ever?

BTW- Its a Canon powershot SD780 is Digital elph..

Send it in to the company. They should fix it.

I won't recommend violence (though I'd be tempted...).

The only thing you can do is take it in for repairs. Take it to the shop and they should be able to give you an idea of how much the fix will cost.

I'm pretty certain that the warranty won't cover a fall (deliberate or accidental).

Canon would have to examine the camera and find evidence that it was dropped to say it's not under their warranty, in which case they would just send it back and say "This isn't covered under our warranty because it was dropped, sorry." So depending on what the damage is, it may be fixable under warranty and it may not be. For a $300 camera I'd sure as heck be sending it in to see if they COULD fix it instead of not trying at all.

Or, more simply, if it was bought from a place like Best Buy, they very well just might exchange it out under their 90 day policy... it's hard to say.

I'd just deny all knowledge of it being dropped and take it back and ask for a replacement, saying that you'd only just started using it and there's obviously a fabrication fault seeing as you keep getting the "Lens error" message.

It's worth a shot, what have you got to lose?

That's exactly what happened with my Canon Powershot at first, with the lens cover not going over it, the lens not going back into the camera, camera error, restart camera, etc. I kept trying and after a while it actually started working again, but only sometimes. I sent it back to the company and they fixed it - but the lens cover never did cover the lens again. And then some idiot girl threw it, and the flash broke. It still works, but only on sunny days.

My sister's camera, an old powershot had the same error from her husband dropping it. We brought it to a camera shop, and they turned it on and messed with the lens until it popped back into alignment. It still works as far as I know. You can google lens error and canon powershot and see ways to maybe take it apart to fix it as well.

Canon does not cover falls with their cameras. Oddly enough they also won't cover water damage on their waterproof cameras.
