lady.

A few days ago I agreed to take on a german shepherd and either find a good home for it or get it into a rescue that would. I think I was only focused on the saving the dog part and not on the actual fostering of the dog part. Or maybe my idea of an untrained 70 pound nine month old german shepherd was vastly different than the reality. Or maybe a combination of both

So, this dog was dropped off at my bookstore at 10:30 this morning. So far...

1. We have been on four different walks in an attempt to burn off his energy. This has not worked.

2. He tore the leash out of my hand and proceeded to chase the neighbors cat. My hand is raw and oozing and hurts like you know what.

3. He broke a leash when I tied him up outside after he jumped the four foot fence. I am not talking broke the clasp. Actually tore the nylon leash in two pieces.

4. Spilled water all over the floor because he will only drink out of the toilet and put his feet in the water bowl.

5. He jumps on my dogs unrelentlessly and they now hate him.

6. He knocked my glasses off of my face and gave me a bloody nose which still hurts. I sincerely hope it is not broken, but it did at last stop bleeding. Apparently he thinks he is a lap dog. :yikes:

7. My husband may in fact leave me once this is all through.

On the other side, he is a very nice dog who will not have to be in that particular environment any more and we will find him a loving forever home where they will hopefully get him into an obediance class asap!

I am sure that those of you who rescue all the time are laughing your butts off right now. :D

I am always so impressed by people willing to foster. I think it's so selfless and generous. The people who fostered my Hudson were so wonderful, and I know it's hard for them to see the dogs go...

Sounds like you have your hands full! LOL Best of luck with the situation, remind your husband that you're doing this because you are a kind person, and try to get a jump on that obedience training!

But for know take it easy other wise at the going rate you will be in the hospitl by next week!!! :p

Can you start working on some training with him??? It will make it easier to place him in a home or if you but him in a certain shelter that will make him her adoptable :D

We actually made pretty good progress on heeling today and a little bit of work on 'sit'. He is a smart dog and wants to please, but not having any training whatsoever makes it a little hard. Okay, a LOT hard. He also asked to go outside to potty, although the previous owners said he was not housetrained at all, so very pleased with that.

P.S. My husband says he weighs a lot more than 70 pounds. That was just a guess on my part. Oh yeah, my nose started bleeding again. I had prepared myself for chewing and accidents in the house, but had not anticipated bloody noses :lol-sign:

Aww... you are really doing a great thing... remember that when your hand and nose are in pain.

Good Luck
