Diane : I would rather not feed raw although it might be healthier.

Barb : Yes, he fasted 16 hours for both tests and he never tested positive for Giardia although both, the antigen and the DNA, tests were done.

Now the funny part, the vet. I am with asked me to take Roy somewhere else and not to be his client anymore after I sent him the results for the second test. His reason was I took Roy to be tested at another clinic as if I have comitted a crime in getting a second opinion. Was I mistaken in asking for a second opinion ?

Absolutely not!! With any chronic disease or serious problem, I always like to get a second opinion. Second opinions have saved many of my past foster dogs.

I dont think you did anything wrong by going and getting a second opinion. I sure did speak to other vets about my girls Digestive problems. And I will continue to research and see other Vets if she needs to. I think you did the right thing. You want Roy to be healthy and happy.

I use both Conventional and Holistic vets. Both know that too.

My Golden went from a healthy 85 pounds to 60 pounds and was diagnosed with EPI. We were told to purchase a product called Viokase and to give him with every meal. We were to moisten the food and let it sit 15 minutes for the product to work best. Well, we did this and he got much better, he put on weight and after a few months was up to 80 pounds. Now, four years later my Golden is a healthy 85 pounds. I also buy canned food instead of only dry to mix the powder in. I give him a 1/4 can of wet food mix in the powder and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then I add dry food and serve. Works great! No bad odors and quite easy. He also eats dog cookies and whatever the 3 and 5 year old humans drop from the table without issue. My point is EPI is very treatable. Did you consider you might be dealing with more than one problem, maybe EPI and IBD? Oh and if you Vet got upset for seeing another one drop them, (unless they're family, like mine).
