I have the orange reflective collars on Missy and Madde - they're the only ones I hike with in the fall. I try to hike where hunting is prohibited (which stops the "good" hunters, sometimes not the "bad" ones). I know this is probably selfish and I hope I don't regret it, but I find the bells annoying. I have a whistle. I've only 'run into' a hunter once... Duck season... Maddie led me to his lab, I had no idea until he was right in front of us :lol-sign: BEAUTIFUL dog - love the working [looking] labs... that was a pleasant experiance...

(okay... I'm "craving" a lab now - LOL :D )

What do you mean by "just like with everything else?" What other types of 'accidents' are caused by something that was made to kill living beings to begin with? Yes, there are automobile accidents that kill people every day in unfortunate/careless accidents---autos were not created with the intention to kill, but guns were! So please do not even compare accidents that occur with weapons that were meant to kill to begin with, to anything else.
Care to post statistics of gun deaths in america compared to auto deaths?? 2003 had 30,100 gun related deaths, if I could break it down to ones caused by hunting and the rest caused by uneducated punks, i'm sure hunting would hardly register on the scale. Most of those accidents are heart attacks and falls, not gun related, that's what I meant by accidents, and yes sometimes someone shoots themselves or someone else, but rarely compared with all those that do it. by comparison 2003 saw about 45,000 deaths by vehicle. Seems kinda high for something not designed to kill, even higher than the those designed to kill. And if you don't think those killed by guns during hunting season aren't the result of, how do you say it?? accidents that kill people every day in unfortunate/careless accidents---, you've got blinders on.

Try rationalizing that thought to someone who lost a loved one due to a hunting 'mishap'..."very very very few" does not console the people who lost a loved one to a careless hunters fatal mistake.
Again probably the result of a tragic, unfortunate or careless accident, so again, should I lobby for taking cars away?? How about with kids that fall down steps, should we try and take stairs out of the equation, how about the fact that about 17,000 people die every year from taking things like asprin??? should we do away with that too?? There's risks in everything get over it.

Who are you referring to here? Funny if it were me you're talking about, because first of all, I don't smoke. I don't drive a gas guzzler (matter of fact, I ride a bike or use public transportation whenever possible). My eating habits use up the least amount of resources, which in turn, my chances of ever being obese are pretty much zero (I've yet to hear of an obese vegan!). I don't drink and drive. My menacing dog ---oh boy, ya got me there---my lil' 4 pound chihuahua is terrorizing the whole neighborhood!! Oh, and BTW, my lawn is treated with the most environmentally friendly, natural products available.

Yep, we're in America alright, and I'm doing all that I can, so that there may possibly be hope for our future generations to live in a safe, healthy environment.

One last thing--If hunting is so OK, then why do you feel the need to find any possible fault (that has nothing to do with hunting) in others who don't agree?!
funny how people live such perfect lives on the internet. Good for you

and I wasn't trying to find fault in what others do, it doesn't make me feel better, just illustrating the point that we all have things others do that we don't like. unless of course the person is perfect such as yourself.

Umm, the point has nothing to do with comparing statistics of every type of accident---we were talking about hunting accidents, and you seem to wander off with any, and every other topic not related to hunting. This thread began with people's concerns for their safety and their dogs safety. If it weren't for those weeks/months of every year when people are allowed to legally roam freely through the woods with loaded weapons, with intent to kill defenseless animals, we would have no hunting accidents to even worry about (unless, of course, people did it illegally).

Uh, yeah, that's how I am able to see some of the unpleasantries in life, and also try to do whatever I can to possibly make a bit of a positive difference...I got me those blinders on  Wake up there---if I had the so called blinders on, you and I would not even be going back and forth with this. You probably loathe people like me, and could only wish that I had blinders on.....and also kept my views silent

Wow, the fact that you even make a comment like this is encouraging! Do you really find it so difficult to believe that people can actually live life as I've stated that I do (truthfully, by the way)? Even though you're obviously being sarcastic, it's odd that you seem to be a bit bothered by people like me...

Maybe it is you who has the blinders on..

Dont hike in hunting zones. Find other places more safe to hike or walk your dogs. Unfortunatly there are some dumb A55es that are out there hunting.
Better to be safe than sorry.
