After Thor spends some time in the kennel he has a hump in his back, and limps around for a bit. is this normal for dogs coming out of a kennel.

I think I know what she means. Is the kennel too small and Thor can't stand up and move around? How old is Thor?

Thor is about 5 months old. he is 40lbs, and is in the biggest kennel that I could get from PetsMart. When he is in there, though, he DOES lay in the C shape, as opposed to straight.

Is he just stretching and walking stiffly or is he actually limping? My dogs both do that weird little shuffle after they wake up, and they hunch up their back to stretch. How big is the kennel? Can Thor stretch out as much as he wants without hitting the sides?

I was worried about the dogs feeling too confined so I bought one of those dane-sized crates for Dakota and a Border-Collie sized crate for Ripley, lol.

I've never crated... but if I did I would want it tall enough for a dog to do full body stretch standing with head up, and be able to do full stretch lying down.

I crate Spud and Precious together in a Dane crate. Precious at 50 and some odd lbs. is a good bit larger than Spud who is only 16lbs. Even weighing that much, Precious still isn't all that big. She lays on her back with all four legs in the air while Spud is beside her with his back legs stretched out. LOL
I try to make it comfy in the crate for them. Piling blankets in there and such.
If Thor has a hump in his back and seems that uncomfortable, maybe his crate is too small??

Sounds like it is past-time time to get the dog out of the cage, and let him have room to stretch, and be comfortable.
