Guess I could start huh?

My boyfriend named Gypsy. He said she looks like one, with dark rimming around her eyes, like she's wearing eyeliner. I wanted to name her Sophie, but now I think her name fits just right since we had to more a bunch in the first year of her life.

Zeus - Our previous dog was named Odin, and hubby wanted to keep a theme going.

Voodoo - We tried to name him after a god, too, but he didn't respond to any of the names we tried. I tried Voodoo, and he just perked up. Good name for a Louisiana catahoula!

With my dogs, I think their names fit them well. Zeus is very dignified and, and Voodoo is just a little heathen witch doctor who likes to cause chaos.

I adopted both boys so they came already named. Duke was given to me at the age of eight months by a family who's older dog wouldn't accept him. Duke was named after his mother Daisy Dukes.
Freckles was named by the staff at the Vets office where they found him abandoned at their back door one morning. They kept him for three months before I adopted him. The name fit and I did not want to traumatize him any further by trying to re-name him.

A bit of Texas history involved with the name selection: Sam Houston, Jim Bowie, Davie Crockett, William Barret Travis, Stephen F. Austin, Juan Sequin, James Fannin, Ben Milam, & Tex (non-historical). Mind, at times I confuse the names appropriate for the dog but they reply anyway. As the dogs pass on, their names are retired as well upon the canine tombstone over their ashes.

Roxy- I just always liked the name and when I met her it fit her perfectly! Foxy Roxy, Saucy Roxy, Roxy the Rottie.. LOL

Hades- His dad's name was Caine, and my bf wanted a name from the bible other than Abel. Hades was near the end and is the Lord of the Underworld. Seemed to match his eyes perfectly at least not his mentality.. LMAO

Mazie - I named her after the little girl from the movie Uncle Buck

Delilah - This was the only name my wife could agree on.. I wanted to name her Praxis.. from Star Trek.. Praxis was the name of a Klingon moon. The wife didn't go for that

Riot went through a bunch of names before his was chosen lol

He was "officially named" the second day he was in my arms though lol

Because I'm going into Policing, I wanted a "police" related name.

I had thought of Riot a while ago, but kept going back to sargeant, but I found it too long for a call name.

So.. Riot it was :)

CHime came named and knows her name

Jada was named because her parents names are Jeannie and Dallas - their names got mooshed together

and Crosbie is named after the man who got our family into SHelties over 20+ years ago. His name was Jack Crosbie and owned Kinnard Kennels.
Crosbies registered name is "MacBarras Time to Remember"... :)

After I had lost my last dog to cancer my hubby had reached the stage where he said "No more dogs!". Me being me, I wasn't to be swayed nor believe he really meant it. ;) A couple of months later when he overheard me on the phone making arrangements to pick up my new pup he, needless to say, went on a tangent. I let him rant & rave and proceeded to go inside to start preparing dinner while I listened to him moaning & groaning & complaining to himself outside. He eventually came in and started asking what breed, how old, what sex, etc. etc. He then asked if I had already picked out a name. When I said no, he thought for a few moments and then said "Farley" and proceeded to tell me why. There was a comic strip he used to read and there was an aged Old English Sheepdog that had saved a young child from drowning and then proceeded to have a heart attack or something and die. He wanted to name the pup after that dog. I thought the name was kind of catchy & the sentiment was so sweet plus I figured giving in on the name would help soothe the disharmony.:D Oh and by the way, in less than 5 minutes of Farley coming into our home my hubby was completely smitten and happy to have a pup again.:)

Khaki is a red merle Aussie. Her coloring reminded me of khaki pants, so I named her that.

When I first got BH (rescued him off the side of the road) I was gonna try to find a home for him but never did....BH was alway's called "butt hole" when he was a pup b/c he was so bad, and that got shortened to BH. I tell most people he has a big ego and BH stands for Big Head....

black Lab female (2 yrs) - Black Tear of Cheyene (call name: Tira) I got to give her her official name and Tony wanted to have her named after a dog he used to have. I've always believed it's bad luck to name a dog after another dog, so, because she's black...and I like the Trail of Tears...and Cheyenne (minus one "N") I named her Black Tear of Cheyene. Her name also allowed Tony to combine "tear" and "of" to get Tira (his previous dogs name).

chocolate Lab male - Gunner's Mate (call name: Gunner) Tony was a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class when he was in the Navy. He had to retire from the Reserves when he had his heart attack (medical hazard - would not be able to be deployed if needed). I thought it would be very fitting to have a male with a Navy themed name so Tony could remember the good times in the Navy and the good times he has with his "little boy". We haven't mailed his papers yet cause Tony might want to add on to his name and we want his whole name on his papers.

Both have unique names, IMO.

I had another dog named Bridger - louisiana catahoula leopard - so named cause he was found under a bridge as a puppy (covered in ants and almost got run over by a lawn mower.)

Another one was Georgia Belle - JRT/Chi mix - so named cause Tony was born in Georgia and he is infatuated with Katherine Bell (JAG). At the time, we were kinda seperated and I named her to remind me of him as well. We were back together within a week. :)

Buffy the Golden One - Cocker Spaniel - He had the name when we bought him...so named due to his coat color.

When I first heard that we were getting Emma I went on a million baby naming sites and came up with a list of over 100 possible names. We then narrowed it down to about 5. While driving to pick her up we still hadn’t chosen one out of our top three.
1) Bella
2) Emma
3) Shannon
Finally we decided that we needed to get a name before we picked her up so Emma it was!

Moco is a petstore dog. (Ugh, I know better now). When we went to see him the employee was calling him Moco. So it was really her suggestion. She said it meant king in Spanish. I later found out that it actually means booger! Poor boy!

Tia - was the color of Tia Maria..and just as sweet
Tinker - she was the size of a mouse at 12 weeks so Tinkerbell seemed fitting
Sophie - means wisdom, she learned so quickly and seemed very wise for a pup
Amos - came with his name and I thought it soooo suited him
Lola - she was named sweetie, but Lola seemt to fit her better and I wanted everything from her previous (horrible puppy mill) life erased.
