our dog is a puppy. she is almost 1 yr. she is a very good dog. although when people come over she still barks at them. if she is excited she jumps up. Normally we put her on the leash, and will either 1. meet them at the front gate so she can greet them correctly, or when they come in she goes on the leash and we hold her back until she controls herself. 8-10 she does awsome. +we always know when someone is comeing over. since my kids have been little they have grown up with dogs, they no how to approach, not to approach, when to wait for a adult whatever.

one of my dds friends came over, the dog was in the yard on the runner, she is always on the runner unless I am out there. dds friend goes up to the dog, the dog barks and of course jumps on her, dds friend and dd come into the house, she says (the friend) that dusty jumped on her, and bite her, now dusty has never bite, we have 3 kids, no teeth on human skin was the FIRST thing we taught her.jumping up yes I believe that. dds friend was fine just had a scratch , very light scratch on her. so I go get dusty, put her on the leash, she barked, I had her sit and waited until she acted accordingly and then approached her to dds friend, nothing, she was great, how she is supposed to be. so I tell dds friend, that she is a puppy , still learning, ect, when dusty is on the runner wait for me to come out, she will get to know you ...and on and on. dusty then was playing with them in the sandbox, being a good girl, I showed dds friend the correct way to pat a dog, and just over all tried to get her to understand. Now im worried that she will go to her mom and tell her dusty bite her, when I know for a fact that she didnt. . . .

Unfortunately, there are alot of kids who have no dog etiquette. Hope it all turns out for you. jSounds like you were giving some good education, so good for you.

Just another reason I am selective which kids get near my dog and under what conditions. I would never let a child get into a run or anywhere else with my dog without me present to monitor and control the situation. I have a special runner area for Tosca too, but I never let her stay out there anywhere in the yard or even in the run area unless I am nearby to monitor her and for sure, if I have to go indoors, I would lock it. This is important not only to keep people like your young friend out but to ensure nobody can just walk off with my dog. I think you probably learned that lesson though, so some good came of it.
