OKay Tucker first off is a really great puppy and catches on quickly to what we train him. He also is pretty good at not having any accidents. But sometimes especially when alone with my mom he has them. Thats because im more in tune to when he has to go then she is. He wakes up from a nap I take him out, after a hard play session I take him out, after he eats I take him out, after a training session I take him out, when I let him out of his crate in the morning either I take him out or my mom does.

Its not that she won't take him out its just that she is really bad and telling when he needs to go. And she's not very good at paying attention to the signs he needs to go out (pacing around in a circle). So he ends up having an accident and mom gets mad. Now sometimes she catches him ready to poop and she yells and then takes him outside so he can go out there and he does. He seems to know that he should go outside because when he does have an accident he lowers his head and looks sad or scared (breeders may have spanked him when he had an accident).

Anyways to my point my mom is used to having dogs that will whine to let you know when they have to go out. Tucker is a whiner every time but when he needs to go outside. Its hard to reward his whining also when its not at the right time. So I was wondering if there were any tips on how to get a 5 month old puppy to whine at the door. Or how do you train them to use the bell or any other signals they want to go out?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Bell training is easy, they catch on very quickly well Madeline did. All you do is hang a bell on a door, doesnt really matter which door as long as where ever you are you can hear it, mine is upstairs as I have a basement home and we are upstairs mostly. All I did with Madeline is when I took her out I would go by the bell and hit it with her foot and say OUTSIDE. I think it only took a couple of times and she caught on, sometimes they ring it whenever, but you must take them outside when they do this, so every time she rang it I would say Do You Have to go OUtside and I would take her out. It has worked like a charm started it when she was about 4 months she is 7 months now and hasnt had an accident for at least a month and a half. Its so great I have a 12 year old poodle and he wasnt bell trained and has never really been able to tell me when he wants to go out, he usually just stands at the top of the stairs and waits for you to say something, so this way of training is so much more understandable between the dog and the owner.

(the bell should be quite large so they can be heard throughout the house)

Thank you so much. I will go out and try and find a bell today to start working with. :)

We hung a small set of chimes by the backdoor for Quincy. Every time we put him out, we'd take his paw and hit the chimes. He caught on quickly. At night we take him out to the front yard on the leash (skunk season). If it's dark he'll go to the front door and scratch the door chain. :)
