I am fostering a young (4-6mth) mix pup that was found in a wooded area and covered in fleas. She has since been dipped and topical applied by the folks who found her. However, she constantly scratches so I would like to bathe her with something that will help ease the itch. Is an oatmeal shampoo appropriate? Your feedback is much appreciated.

Oh, Poor baby

There are sprays you can buy for Hot spot relief... this would cover any kind of skin relief... ( you can get this type of item at the local pet store) - Should not cost more than 8.00 per 5 oz bottle..

Next, Yes, the oatmeal bath will help - soothing... You can do that 2 x per week if needed. You may also be able to find an oatmeal cream rinse, too.

Next, supplements are helpful - Many available for skin and coat problems..

One more thing, Put Salmon Oil ( 1/2) teaspoon in food 1 x per day.

Good luck and I hope this helps

An oatmeal bath will help sooth the skin, however the flea bites themselves can be itchy because of an allergic reaction to the bites themselves. My huskyX is super allergic to flea bites and one bite will drive her batty. You can give your dog benedryl to help with the itching until the bites heal.
