We have had a cat in our neighborhood for the past year. It doesn't really belong to anyone but its always hung around the 2 houses across the street from me and I always assumed they were feeding it/caring for it. Today, for the first time, it came into my driveway and I was dismayed to see how skinny it was, but its stomach was fat (worms?). It wanted to be loved so badly, but I was wondering, can humans transfer disease from one cat to another? I have two elderly house cats. I was afraid to pet this cat, wondering if it had something. (Feline Luekemia?) It broke my heart to walk away from it. I don't know what the right thing to do is. I wish I had the money to take it to the vet and have all its problems taken care of and then find it a home, but alas, I just don't have the extra money. Any suggestions and if anyone knows about the human transfering cat diseases thing, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are some diseases that can be transfered not only to your pets but to you as well but with limited contact it probably won't be a problem I would post on petfinder or if you would like I could do it for you the only problem is that right now is "kitten" season and most of the kittens that were born this spring are ready to be weaned and adopted out so the rescues and shelters are loaded to the gills with cats and kittens but if you would like to maybe find him a rescue to go to either pm me or post or just go to petfinder and post yourself

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately I have not seen the cat since I first posted. I was planning on finding it a no kill shelter, but it hasn't been back since that first night. I truely hate people that abandon their animals, then people like me have a sleepless night worrying about these poor babies!

I hear yeah. That poor kitty, what did she do wrong? Nothing it is her owners who did wrong? Irish you are so kind and caring, there needs to be more people like you in this world.

There used to be this white cat in my old neighborhood with one blue eye and one green eye.It was so cute and we put some food and wtaer out for her. This was the summer and we thought that she was in heat...When we moved I saw her in the bushes of the church we never went to...(we are not catholic or any other religion)
I was sad and I knew that was the last time I was going to see her...I still wonder to this very day if she is still ok and if she is trying to find her way to us...I hope she is still okay.
About your found cat Irish:You are a very loving person...you know to do the right thing, even if other people think it is wrong...wash out a cat carrier and put some food in it outside. Take the cat to the vet.Maybe cover the carrier with a blanket, and he or she might want to keep the cat there. If you do this and you go home, defenetly wash everything the cat has touched and let it soak in a basement sink if you have one, and wash the blanket in the wasking machine.

Yes, you can give you cats germs from her. It sounds like even if shes skinny, shes someones cat. A feral cat would never let you approch
