As i have never owned a pup before i thorught it might be useful to ask some questions regarding what age your pups stopped doing certain things might give me some hope for the future lol!

ok here goes....

a) how old was your dog when he stopped chewing/destroying everything!

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.

and finally

c)how old was your dog when he clamed down a little bit and was happy to sit down quietly for a few mins without wanting to play constently!

if anyone can think of anymore please feel free to add to this post which will hopefully be useful for a lot of new pup owners out there

Lemon: Only 7 weeks so never started

None of mine ever started

Riot still hasn't stopped that, but usually they stop when all of their adult teeth have grown in. They are just like babies and teething when they loose their baby teeth.

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.

Riot still does this but only when we are playing. It comes with training.

umm Riot was like that as soon as I got him. He is a very good puppy, THIS depends on the breed. like Labs always want to play and are always puppies at heart :0 i love labs hehe

Hunter chewed ONE boot of mine. I threw the good one away and kept the chewed one to shame him. I get it out every once in awhile and just show it to him and he cowers and slinks in shame. I never had to raise my voice, just told him how disappointed I was in him. He's not chewed anything since.

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.
My dogs have never jumped and bit.

and finally

It's all what you put into them. I used to come home from work and throw the ball for Hunter constantly thinking he needed to get his Ya Ya's out. Only to find out I was conditioning him to be hyper. Now, I come home and log onto the computer to check e-mail, etc. and it's quiet time for an hour until he eats dinner. He's used to that and just chills with me now.

My rottie was a year old and still did all those things. It depends on the breed and size. Large dogs mature slower than smaller dogs.

Rottie...I personally ( from what I've read here) feel that small dogs are harder to raise. Of all my Goldens through my life, Chip WAS the most hyper. Why ?? From puppyhood until I adopted him , his former family did exatly like EliN described. It's like wrestling and horseplay with young children and then say...wasn't that fun, now off to bed. ! With all my goldens, I did have the occasional chair rung chewed, etc... but never destruction. Jumping stopped when they realized it was wrong , and they were always happy to just chill out.

I think that some people get smaller dogs because they think it'll be easier than a big dog, and sometimes it just isn't true. Small dogs do mature faster, but it seems more likely to have a misbehaving adult small dog even when they are done growing. They are lucky they're cute, because if large dogs did what I see most little dogs do . . . . . :p

First I would like to support grammy on the big dog opinion.
I had only one really small dog, and it just was constant turmoil.

But even though I have big dogs, the time until "they fit perfectly with everything I expect" is about 2 years. Magically mine changed from untrustworthy destructive mutts to well behaved specimens of the best house dogs and companions. All my friends want my dogs, but they don't realize the time and effort it takes to have an obediant, well mannered lab or shepherd.

2 years to complete trust. Although it slacks off as they age.

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.
Never jumped and bit. Only an occaisional butt tuck and run....just watch out for the kids..lol

and finally

c)how old was your dog when he clamed down a little bit and was happy to sit down quietly for a few mins without wanting to play constently!
My dogs have always had moments like this, but now they will do it on command instead of when they are tired.:D

Best Wishes,

Jasmine was probably 10 weeks, Maggie will still chew wrappers and socks, Katy will chew trash and makeup

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.
Jasmine- jumping- still does until you tell her down Biting- never started
Katy- same as Jasmine
Maggie- never started either jumping or biting

c)how old was your dog when he clamed down a little bit and was happy to sit down quietly for a few mins without wanting to play constently!

Jasmine- she's 3 and still is as playful as the day I got her
Katy- was never really hyper
Maggie- about 6 months

Mav: I guess about 8 months
Mikey: He was adopted as a young adult and I don't remember him destroying things
Nanook: Same as Mikey

b) how old was your dog when he stopped jumping and biting.

Mav: never a huge problem. Maybe 6 months
Mikey: never nipped and rarely jumps up
Nanook: has gotten better but she still does both a bit

c)how old was your dog when he clamed down a little bit and was happy to sit down quietly for a few mins without wanting to play constently!

all mine love to lay with me. Mav needed a lot of exercise first as a pup.
