About how often is it ok to bathe a 3 month old puppy? I know that they are prone to getting a cold but was just wondering. He's starting to get stinky if you know what i mean lol :p

With the Newf pups we bath on a need to bath basis, which can sometimes be once a week...but, try not to make it that often. We use a nice gentle oatmeal shampoo, Alexanders own, or A1 all systems are nice products. we start them at about 4 weeks of age. It's also a good idea to get the pup used to regular grooming especially when you know it's going to be a big coated dog. Make sure you towel dry nicely, we give the pups a quick blast with the high velocity dryer on low.

We bathed our golden almost weekly since she was a tiny pup (8 weeks). She adored it, and never had any of the dry skin problems so many people seem to worry about. What I suggest is to use a good puppy shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner will keep his skin and hair from drying out, just like it does for people.

Any dog should be bathed when it needs it. A general rule of thumb is no more often than every 6 weeks. I personally use White Rain on my dogs, because that is what I use. It does a good job. Of course mine are neeked breeds....kinda wash and wear.....or drip/dry?

In winter we have to bathe Misha at least once a week, then she has a big coat that gets full of sand and salt. She was four months when we got her and was fine with once a week, we just made sure we did if after she'd been out in the cold. But with her 'summer' coat she probably has a bath every 3 -4 weeks, depends if she has been rolling in anything smelly......

My gang of four gets a bath every week along with nail trimming, ear cleaning and of course wrinkle cleaning LOL! I find it keeps the shedding down, they always smell fresh and their coat looks great!

Usually Ike gets a bath once a month, but if he goes swimmimg or rolls in something he gets a bath that day. He doesn't take long to dry either, so he just gets towel dried. Muffie on the other hand loves to be blow dried! When I dry my hair she runs into the bathroom waiting for me to blow air on her.

well you are correct once a month is good... make sure you wipe those ears out good because you will get infection if you dont. so remember that once a month is plenty but if you have to do it more try to rinse with water with no soap... drys the skin out. and you dont need that

Wow I just gave Milou his 2nd bath since getting him. His 1st bath went ok but the 2nd bath freaked me out. I put him in the tub figuring he might like it and would be easier to bathe him. He just freaked out trying to get out of there so bad so I put him in the sink. He was a little more calm but still nervous. I finished bathing him and brought him over to be dried. He freaked out some more. He couldn't stay still was running around the room like a crazy dog. I gave him a few treats and he sat on my lap and calmed down a bit so he could be dried.

Man i'm so nervous about giving him another bath or when I take him to get groomed for the 1st time.. Anyone has had similar experiences?

i bathe my 16 weeks White GSD once a week....well she's WHITE so generally after running the the forest, walk through mud, poo etc, she is generally a sort of yellowish n greyish at the end of the week. But a good bath makes her all gleaming again :)

i give yoshi a bath once a week. she gets so gross because the first thing she does when i take her outside is roll around. in grass or dirt. and she loves puddles and mud and it's been raining like crazy.

a lot of times if she gets gross i'll put her in the bathtub and rinse all the dirt off her. if it's bad though i usually have to go ahead and give her a bath

The post-bath freakout is normal. All my dogs did it. Once the bath is over, they will run laps like mad, fling themselves on the ground, etc. It must just be a dog thing.

Try putting your dog in the sink or tub even when he's not going to be bathed. Do it periodically, and offer lots of yummies. That way, he'll at least not be nervous about the bathing place. As for the bath, it just takes repetition. All my dogs freaked out for their first few baths, but eventually got used to it.

I bathe Sawyer about once a week, once every two weeks if I can get away with it. But daycare makes him smelly and his swims in the lake don't help. He sleeps in bed with me, so I try to keep him as clean as possible. Most of the dirt and stuff brushes out, but the pee smell doesn't. He's getting worse and worse about being dryed though with the high speed dryer...so now I just towel dry him and put him in a drying cage to finish while I'm bathing Aubrey.

I really don't believe in over bathing....they need the oils.. In the winter with snow washing, I never give bathes unless a shower hosing for mud etc. When I see oil deposits on where Chip leans against a wall... then it's time. I'd say once every three months....he doesn't smell.
