I am going to be getting a Corgi puppy and I was wondering how often I should feed her? The breeder told me that twice a day as much as she'll eat in 20 minutes. Anyone else? just trying to be as educated as possible! thanks!!

It's more important to first pick out a good food to feed her! But twice a day is usually a good idea as well. What does the breeder have her on or what are you planning on feeding her?

I was just thinking...if I went with as much as my dogs could eat in 20 minutes, I'd have walking blimps... :D But they're not growing puppies anymore either.

The breeder uses Diamond dog food...I been looking around and haven't found it in our local supermarkets so I don't know if I should switch it. I was told Pedigree was good. Any reccomdendations?

Definintely not Pedigree. The thing about dog food is that if you can buy it in a supermarket, it's really not that good for them. Lots of poor quality meat by-products and grains. Dogs don't do well with gluten or corn and that's what makes up a huge portion of those foods. If you notice feeding amounts you will find that they are rather high for the size of the dog. This is because they must eat more to get any amount of nutrients out of the food. They also poop more because there is more they can't digest. If you sit down and figure it out, you actually spend more feeding your dog on these types of food because of how much you have to feed them.

Some good foods are:
Royal Canin
Eagle Pack
Solid Gold
Wellness
Canidae
Innova
Innova Evo (this is top of the line, everything else is in no particular order).

These look expensive at first, but you feed less because the dogs get more out of every bite they eat. They poop less for the same reason. You do have to put some effort into finding them, but it's worth it overall. Your dog will be healthier and you will spend less money in the long run on vet bills.

You'll notice that Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet are not on that list. Regardless of what the commercials tell you, those foods aren't that great. Our resident canine nutritionist, Mordy, can explain to you exactly what to look for when picking out a food, and what to avoid. She can also give you some other recommendations based on what you know you can find.

I have a corgi. She eats twice a day, but there is always food and water in her bowl. I dont know if all dogs do this, but Peanut will pick up her bowl(usually spilling all the water onto the floor) and bring it to me and start to whine.

In other words, don't starve your dog but make sure you keep them at or slightly under their optimum weight. If it's male keep it to at or slightly under 27 pounds, a female at or just under 25 pounds.
