I too think most people don't tip groomers because they just don't know, or think about it. I am a groomer, with my own shop, and I have about 60% of my clients tip. Most tip at least $5, on a minimum price of $40 grooms. I do disagree in treating my clients differently according to tips. Because I am the owner, I charge what I need to charge for each dog. I do not expect tips at all. I am very appreciative when I get them, and I use my tip money to attend and compete in 3 grooming competitions/seminars each year. I think tipping is much nicer when you are tipping the groomer that is NOT the owner. They are making at best, a percentage of the cost of that groom. Groomers provide their own equipment and most pay for their own sharpening (not the salon). I do understand the reasoning behind some of you saying you don't tip your groomer because your charge is so high for your dog to be groomed. I understand that. My Collies start at quite a bit more than you are paying, and whoever got the Pyrenese done for $40...I hope you tipped very well! LOL I wouldn't have even washed your dog and sent it home wet for $40! LOL Great deal! Really, I do think tipping is getting out of control these days. Seems everywhere you go, you are expected to tip...The Qdoba (fast food like Chipotle) even has a tip jar on the counter now...Jeesh.
