I am a groomer and we love it when we get tips. It makes us feel like people actually appreciate us. I would say I get tips about 30% of the time. I think its mostly because people don't know they are supposed to tip groomers.

I loved getting tips when I was grooming. Groomers often times don't see many kickbacks of those high priced grooming jobs - the hard earned money goes towards buying more grooming supplies, or lines the pockets of the owners/managers that don't lift a finger on the dog.

When I worked for five hours removing ticks and burrs from an aggressive Chow's coat, you bet I was a bit put out when I recieved no tip. And you can bet that the guy who regularly tipped $15 per dog (owned two Pembrokes - Cooper and Parker) got in for a grooming even on very short notice, even if we were fully booked.

Being a groomer, and owning my own shop, I appreciate tips very much. I save my tips for a trip or something special for me and not give it to my kids or husband. This year my tips are for a trip to vegas. It will be my spending money. It might not be alot but every penny is appreciated very much.

Whoops I'm bad !!! I've only had 2 dogs bathed and trimmed at vets and one while kenneled , so never thought of it !!! I guess a Groomer's Shop would be like a hairdresser's though , and I do tip there !

Dude, you have a Collie! One just left last week with a bill of $110 from the groomer.
Wow, $110 for grooming? I paid only $40 ($5 tip) for my double-coated Great Pyr to be bathed, dried and groomed. It took about 5-6 hours, but I thought that was a heck of a deal!

I too think most people don't tip groomers because they just don't know, or think about it. I am a groomer, with my own shop, and I have about 60% of my clients tip. Most tip at least $5, on a minimum price of $40 grooms. I do disagree in treating my clients differently according to tips. Because I am the owner, I charge what I need to charge for each dog. I do not expect tips at all. I am very appreciative when I get them, and I use my tip money to attend and compete in 3 grooming competitions/seminars each year. I think tipping is much nicer when you are tipping the groomer that is NOT the owner. They are making at best, a percentage of the cost of that groom. Groomers provide their own equipment and most pay for their own sharpening (not the salon). I do understand the reasoning behind some of you saying you don't tip your groomer because your charge is so high for your dog to be groomed. I understand that. My Collies start at quite a bit more than you are paying, and whoever got the Pyrenese done for $40...I hope you tipped very well! LOL I wouldn't have even washed your dog and sent it home wet for $40! LOL Great deal! Really, I do think tipping is getting out of control these days. Seems everywhere you go, you are expected to tip...The Qdoba (fast food like Chipotle) even has a tip jar on the counter now...Jeesh.

I didn't know you were suppose to tip :(. I even worked at a groomers and thought it was wierd when I saw people tipping. I don't go to a groomers anymore but I ever do take the dogs there for something I will make sure to tip something.

Hi there guys. Im a groomer...I would say that most people, even those who are happy with your grooming dont know that they should tip.
As a groomer I appreciate it when the customer does tip....especially if I went out of my way to accommodate the owner and the dog. I believe a customer should tip when they are pleased with the service provided and especially when they know that their dog was especially difficult, EI: matted, or is a behavioral problem dog. If the customer isnt happy with my services I really have a hard time recieving a tip... but that is just my opinion.
