I just took Hannah to the vet for her annually shots and it cost me $112:yikes: ! They did a heartworm test (even though she's on the medications) and then I bought a 3 month supply and then the 1 year rabies shot, parvo and distemper shot. I could have gotten the 3 year rabies shot for an additional $14 and I passed and I'm glad I didn't because Mark would have killed me.

What do you guys spend on the annual checkups for your dogs?

Well at my house it stinks because both Izzy and Frodo need their annual checkups/shots at the same time, so it's double the money when they go. Bleh!

I paid $94 each for shots a few months ago. At that same time Izzy got a UTI and needed meds and Frodo had to get X-rays for his back/hip/knee. Not fun.

Ok, well atleast I'm not getting ripped off. That was even with an $18 credit that I had. This is my new vet I'm going to now and my last it was like $70 bucks but they didn't do the heartworm test. My jaw hit the floor when she gave me the total though!

We pay similar amounts here. The visit after Xena was attacked by the APBT down the street was something like 150 (inlcuded xrays and rabies booster). We're taking her to be fixed tomorrow where she'll also be boarded (as we're going on vacation). Between the kennel fees, the surgery and "chipping" her, it's going to be around $400.

It really depends on what we are having done. My vet also gives me special pricing because I'm there so much. It's a little scary when you call the vet and they pick the phone up and greet you by name.

I give my own vaccinations, except for rabies. And my dogs are on a 3 year schedule, not yearly. But they are still at the vets for injuries, health issues, xrays, checkups, etc. Last year I spent just under 8000.00 at the vets.

Vet costs in CA are also a lot higher than they were in Oregon, a routine spay/neuter down here will cost 350+ depending on the dogs size. Xrays for hips/elbows are around 250.00 A yearly visit for a checkup and vaccines, with heartworm test and meds is going to run over 150.00

I understand that.

Our last annual physical this year was $930. We didn't have to update rabies yet and I give the vaccinations at home also not due this year. So, those are not included. This was my cheap year. I don't even want to count up how much I spend on a monthly basis for tests and medications.

nah, if you're a good client, it's not surprising that they know you by name.

where i work an exam is $45.75, rabies is $16.90, dhlpp $17 something, heartworm test is $27 for the one that goes to the lab (about $10 for the in-house 3DX snap that tests for heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia), fecal is $19.80. we're pretty average for the area.

I think it's comforting myself. I have used the same clinic for two decades. They know me there. If I call in the middle of the night or on a weekend, they call me right back. There's a certain comfort in knowing that they value their longtime clients and know them personally. They often give me breaks on services, I always get discounts on things and when I bring two cats in together I get an additional reduced charge for the checkups. My vet is expensive, yes he is. But compared to some of the yahoos around here that hang a shingle and only cost a wee bit less, at least I know my pets are getting good care and up to date veterinary skills.

That's right about what I spend, or used to spend. I decided to do titers this year instead and it was about $200, and one of the titers was too low, so we need to get that shot tomorrow.

I'm not talking about a conversation that goes "Blah Blah Vet Clinic" "Hi this is Kadi, I need ..." "Oh Hi Kadi, how is ..."

I'm talking about the phone rings and they pick it up and say "Hello Kadi, what's up" because they recognize my phone number on their caller ID. And I asked one time, it just shows the number, not the name.

But I average 2 visits a month at least, so it's not a huge surprise.

And I do like that everyone there knows not only me by name, but my dogs. They may be a little confused on who is who, since they are all Malinois except one, but they each have their favorite, and ask how that dog is doing if someone else is the "lucky one" that day (having to go to the vet).

I've been lucky that most of my visits have been all routine ...... everyone who gets a pup has to realize that the cost of a pup is the least of the costs that add up over the years .

I do all my own vaccinations, deworming and routine stuff except for rabies which is about $8.00 for a 1 year or 3 year here (they are the same price.) As far as the other stuff they go for I would say it's about $200 per visit on average because it's generally not routine.

I would say what you paid for annual stuff is very average.
