My two Golden retrievers, Dylan and Tramp, only knew two tricks. Both of them knew how to sit. Dylan knew how to stay while Tramps knows how to shake hands. But my first dog Apollo, knew quite a lot of tricks. Apollo knew the standard tricks such as: sit, stay, shake hands, lie down and roll over. When I would ask Apollo: "Who's here", Apollo would look out the window to see who was coming. If I said: Where's Grandma", Apollo would also look out the window, looking for my grandmother. The other tricks Apollo knew were so comprehensive as far as I was concerned, she had to understand the English language to perform them. If I said: "What did you do over there" or "Under the table", Apollo would hide underneath the table because she figured she did something wrong. Other examples include: If I said: "I'll get the stick", referring to a yard stick, Apollo would start barking like crazy. For some reason, she did not like the yard stick. If I said: "Do you want to take a bath", Apollo would hide underneath the table because she hated baths. If I said: "Go look in your dish", Apollo would check her food dish to see if anyone put any food in it. Perhaps Apollo's best trick is the one I taught her when she was ten years old. Without looking at it, I would say to Apollo: "On the chair", and Apollo would jump on the kitchen chair. I got Apollo trained to the point when I could get her to jump on the chair just by folding my arms. Of course Apollo knew what I meant when I asked her to go outside. But I trained her to understand if she wanted to go outside in German which was something like Derousingane. When I posted stories about Apollo on a other dog site, a dog trainer said dogs like Apollo are used in TV and movie often because those types of dogs are so easy to train. if I had known that when I had Apollo, who knows what I could have taught her. How many tricks does your dog know? I'd like to hear your stories.

Maggie May knows....sit, lay down, stay, roll over, shake, come, stay and wave.

Sawyer knows.....sit, lay down, play dead, roll over, stay, come, leave it, "hooray" when he bounces once straight up in the air with all four feet off the ground. And right now he is learning how to hold things in his mouth and bring them to me.

Tricks are one of my favorite things. I love teaching the dogs new ones. All four know quite a bit. I think the best one that Kyra can do is sneeze on command.

Jack knows a couple more than the others.

My favorites are getting a beer from the fridge, skateboarding, getting tissues, turning on lights, 'boing', yawning, etc.

I made a video a while ago with most of his tricks. But it doesn't include rolling up in blankets, limping or anything newer that he knows.
The video was done during the middle of a HOT summer, and you can tell, but it gives a general idea.

Here's blowing bubbles, he actually just learned this last weekend

He also loves his weave poles

Awwww he is great. All those tricks I hope Sawyer someday gets down. He has been the easiest dog I have ever trained. He catches on to a new command within 15 minutes.

I must say I am quite impressed.

mary knew shake at 7 weeks,,,then she said this stuff is silly and refused for years. SOmewhere around midlife she decided jump through the hoop was a bit of fun so she joined in. AFter Bronki passed when she was 9 she suddenly starting sitting pretty. If you ask her to speak (repeatedly) she will sneeze. THat's it, Tricks were never her idea of proper behavior for a lady.

Pepper has sit pretty shake left and right down pat and now she speaks when i tell Victor to sing...gotta work on that. SHe jumps through the hoop like a champ.

Victor's favorite is twist he does it like a tornado, high and fast. Shake, down pretty he goes down and then raises up without using his front legs to a pretty which doesn't impress anyone but me, i just don't know how he does it.

His best trick of all is his singing. I point to my ear and say clear your voice victor..and he does..lick his chops,,,get warmed up. THen i sing hte first line and he mumble moans whines. WE sing the second line together getting louder. IT is always a hit.

I put down at the end of lots of his tricks to still him. HE gets going its a lot of movement.

Crawl is lame, the worst crawl of any dog i have ever seen. Gimme 10 is about the same way, he throws his legs out at you.

CArry he does like a champ. We are learing weave through the legs, he does a great touch. Hoop, bubbles, he should do more, it's my fault he doesn't becuase he does like to learn.

He positions nicely around wheelchairs and such but i don't know if you call that a trick.

I am sure there are more i am just not thinking straight this morning.

THis freaking house is so small you can't hardly move in it and outside you just about lose him completely to birds and squirrels and such. HE will do them outside, but out of protest. Almost pointless to try to learn anything new out there when he has one eye on the trees.

Trick wise, Caleb knows- bring it here, get the paper, get my slippers, get the other one, head down (which he does from a stand, sit or down), paw/shake hands (left and right), high five (left and right), wave (left and right), leave it, pick it up (when I drop something), get off, back up (from both in front of me and when standing next to me), scootch (inches forward while sitting). Oh, and go in the bathroom & get in the tub. He also knows all the basic obedience stuff, but I don't consider them tricks - sit, down, stand, stay in all 3 positions, heel (normal, fast and slow speeds), come, finish/return to heel postion. We're working on crawl and bow.

Maggie knows sit, down, come here, calm, and stay (except the stay command is just the palm up, I don't have to say it.) Oh she also knows go away, get down, go potty, and eat your breakfast/dinner, lol. She doesn't actually eat on command but she'll go to her food bowl, sniff at it, and look at me.

Victor did roll over twice on command that i never taught him only because the other dogs in the room did it. WE were playing simon says. I figured we were out on that one but he sure surprised me, instead we won. Cracked me up. Hasn't done it since. He hates the floor.

Trick wise, Pit can:

Spin
Down with head on paws
Bow
Do the wave (like at a sports event)
Bang
Hide (paws over face)
Back up
Touch objects I point at
Shake a paw, shake other paw, shake both paws
Shut the door

Most are pretty generic, I'd like to spice up his repetoir a little bit soon with more interesting tricks.
