I know ignoring a puppy is some sort of discipline. And i know they have short attention spans.

usually i'll ignore her, then she does something i need to correct, like chewing something she shouldn't. So now i'm not ignoring her! On the other hand, sometimes i'll ignore her, then she'll go to her crate and sleep.

So how long should i ignore her for? How long before she forgets that i'm ignoring her? She's 9 weeks right now.

What exactly are you ignoring her for in the first place? If you are ignoring her because she is begging or jumping or something like that ignore until she stops and then pay attention until she starts up again. If it's because she bit, only do so for less than a minute (as long as she's stopped trying to bite in that time).

One suggestion-- greatly increase the number of appropriate chew items and pick stuff up around the house so that you greatly decrease the number of inappropriate chew items.

If chewing is more of a problem in some areas of the house than others, limit access until she learns the rules and outgrows the chewing stage. (For instance, with the puppies we've had, they stay in the kitchen front few rooms of the house until they can be better trusted.)

things i ignore her for- whining, jumping, biting. i've been ignoring her less for the biting since we've been introducing more and more (and more) toys. I usually cram a toy in her mouth when she bites or chews.

i think maxy24's answer was the info i'm looking for. Although we've been ignoring her during our meals... i'm gonna make a new post about that.

if you want her to stop begging during meals it's best to keep her in a different room when you are eating. Feed her the same time your family eats but in a different room.
