Theoretically, organic food is not healthier. However, conventional foods have so many pestisides on them, that its just plain discusting. With organic foods I can be 99% sure, that it is not genetically modified food, no artifical colours or flavors and nothing altered.
On top of that, when I buy organic meats, I can also be pretty sure that the animals are treated ethically and not fed with hormons to make the grow faster.
Let's see... We recycle, compost, grow veggies in a garden, I like thrift stores, I try to buy things used... I would buy more organic/locally grown foods, but it's usually more expensive than non-organic/local. We've stopped shopping at Walmart for the most part, and are supporting our local Yokes (empoyee owned and operated!), so there's not a lot of extra grocery money to throw at organic/local food right now.
I think the whole "green movement" would catch on a LOT faster if it weren't hitting people's pocket books. If everything organic was the same price as non-organic, then there would be a lot more converts. If each plastic bag cost a quarter, but paper bags were free, how many people would be asking for plastic? How fast change happens often comes down to the money involved...
