OK, do you ever celebrate your dog's birthday? If so, how far do you go?

For me, it's just a simple dish that my dog likes, and I bring him out for a nice long walk.

That' all.

I have seen a dog owner who:
1) Buys birthday cake
2) Invites other dogs (with the dog owners)
3) Provides activities for the dogs (bone catching, etc)
4) SING birthday song to the birthday dog!

And they can spend over $1000 for such a party! Yes, because it is getting so popular, there are a couple of dog birthday companies.

Personally, I think it is ridiculous sum of money spent. But then, that's my opinion.

So, how far do you go celebrating your dog's birthday?

For my dog's birthday (actually the anniversary of the day he was brought into the clinic) I made him a cake out of dog food and treats, and he got a new toy.

The birthday bandanna he has in that pic is from Petsmart's birthday celebration a few months earlier. It was free and cute lol

We had a party for Upendi's birthday. I baked a dog friendly carrot cake for her myself at home so it was pretty cheap. As far as inviting other dogs? We have enough here to have a party. :rofl1:

The cake: (the orange stuff is carrot shavings and the icing is cottage cheese)

Yes we did candles and sang to her.

And the 'party':

Then we did birthday pictures and went for a ride.

Upendi was one happy girl.

Sorry for all the pictures, I got a little carried away.

Thank you! Your boy is beautiful! And he looks like he was enjoying his cake.

The one thing I will say is that the dogs loved the cake here, but I tried it and let's just say it's nothing to bark about. ;)

I don't go to extremes to celebrate Lola's birthday, yet :rofl1: but part of that reason is because she was born on February 26, 2007 and quite frankly it is to cold out to celebrate with dogs and people.

There was one person I heard of though that at the dog park brought dog edible cupcakes for all the dogs, had chips and soda for the adults as well as cake and the people at the dog park that were there at the time got to celebrate the dogs birthday as they were just total strangers to the woman with the dog it went over quite well.

Argon is probably going to have a combo happy Birthday (oct 16)/Happy Gotcha Day (Oct 30) party. This will include him, Neon and Radar, and probably some extra cookies. Mommy will probaby sing him the birthday song on his actual day. Other than that? Not much.

Well, Pedro got a puppy for his birthday this year. He's already lobbying for a pony next year. Really though, birthdays mean something yummy in his bowl and mommy being a big doofus singing songs. He would probably love a McDonald's birthday party though LOL!

I usually buy a few new toys, give a treat of some kind, and go about life as usual--lol!

I usually buy treats and toys, make a cake, that's about it. Rosey's not too fond of other dogs, she doesn't get aggressive or anything, she just walks away and ignores them. And yes, we sing happy birthday to her. She sings it on our birthdays, and looks all offended if we don't :p

This is what I usually do.

One time, I did throw a party for Maddie!! It was a lot of fun.
We had it at a park, I claimed a pavillion and my Mom helped me grill hot dogs (for the people). I had doggy treats, a dog cake and a small human cake, and people food for the cookout. We played silly games like catch the bone, bobbin for bones, etc. I had goody bags for the pups - we had 10 dogs at one point, people came and went as they pleased. I invited all of my friends, and said on the invitation friendly dogs are invited. We had one dog scuffle, But mostly we socialized and had a good time. It was a good excuse to have a party :D
I did not expect presents for my dog, but Maddie got more presents than I did on my birthday 3-4mos later :lol-sign: It was great! I'd do it again

I wish I knew Ollie's birth date ! We do special treat and a new toy on his Gotcha Day .
I've been to a "Gotchya day party"! All presents/dontations went to a rescue. I loved that!

I had a hard time thinking of something special to do for B's Gotcha Day this summer...since he's too spoiled in his daily life. I was with my family and they thought it was hilarious -- I kept trying to think of something special. Really, though, he already had a new toy and a bully stick; he eats raw food and is a picky eater so wouldn't have eaten a cake anyway. I gave him ground buffalo and RMBs, took him on a long walk and paid a lot of attention to him -- and called it a day. :)

Harley usually gets a new toy or two...and maybe some special treats. We have never sang to him or anything though. We have attended a birthday party for one of his friends however :) It was mostly an excuse for the owners to get together..we didnt do anything very special - just a bbq.

For Finn's birthday, I'll probably invite a few of my friends with dogs over, and make a dog cake for the pups. I often have dogs over to play with Finn so it's not so out of the ordinary. Another thing I want to do is go on a nice long trail hike with him on the morning of his birthday. :)

If I knew a lot of people with dogs I would TOTALLY invite them over for a doggy birthday party! But I don't really know that many.
As it is I have made doggie brownies one year, a cake another year, and will probably do cake or biscuits again this year. He gets a new toy and usually we do something special. Last year we had a rally-o trial on his birthday, haha. It falls on his birthday again this year but I'm not sure if we'll enter it...

I can't imagine what would cost so much that someone would spend a grand or more on a birthday party, dog OR human. o_O Was there alcohol involved? LOL

A-w-w-w....cute pictures! You guys are making me feel so guilty. I don't usually do anything special. I figure they don't know any better. I might put some extra meat on their food or make sure they have a really fun hike. Sometimes their birthday passes and I don't even remember it until later. "Oh....Jose` just turned 7 last month. Woops." I'm terrible. I hope they don't have any deep seated resentments about it or develop any complexes.

Izzy's first Birthday is tomorrow! I think I'll mostly spend the time at the dog park with her then let her have some sort of homemade cake when we get home. I'm sure she'll get lots of treats and maybe a bandanna so she can look pretty for Halloween. If I had friends with dogs, I'd probably invited a few over to play and have cake with her but alas, all the people I know with dogs are at the park and we're not exactly on home visiting basis!

Yup, "might" being the operative word in this case.

I use to for Victor when he was a youngster but not anymore. My dogs have it pretty good and that's all they are going to get. I don't get to do anything for my birthday either. Just Hyia because she is a child..and something for my Mom on hers because she never had birthdays as a child. I dont' have the energy for anything else anymore.
