Outside of balls of heels first, roll to inside, and then heels go down. Heel strike is awful for your feet.

Depends on what I am wearing. Barefoot I strike ball of foot first, and it feels incredible, <3 <3 <3

Ball of foot when I'm barefooting. Unfortunately I tend to heel strike in real shoes, but I find the more I barefoot, the more I'm inclined to try and strike correctly in shoes as well. It's weird.

depends
marching, walking and shooting or just walking around the neighborhood-heel strike roll to toe
combat movement or stalking-toe strike roll to ball of foot then roll to heel

I'm pretty sure I heel strike when I wear shoes. Barefoot I walk on the balls of my feet, I think. And I much prefer going barefoot whenever possible.
And according to my friend, I walk like I'm about ready to side kick something. LOL

Oh, I also toe-walk a lot. Mostly when I'm barefoot or in VFFS (it's hard to do in regular shoes). Apparently it's related ot my autism. But I've done it as long as I can remember.

if we are discussing purely walking (running is different mechanics)...

A normal gait pattern should ABSOLUTELY be heel strike first.

Toe walking is often a sign of a neurological disorder/autism/etc in children (although earlier than age 4, it is ok...if I am remembering correctly...but when kids first start walking, it is normal to be toe walking)

If an adult is just voluntarily doing it...it is just bad habit. If you are consistently doing it, it will most likely start causing issues up the chain (i.e. ankle, knee, hip, back pain)...or just REALLY start wearing on oyur big toe joint. Your body is designed to absorb the shock of walking in a very specific manner...toe walking alters everything.

Sael....where did you see that toe walking was good??????

I'm really glad Dreeza weighed in on this...I thought I was going crazy! I walk heel-->toe, the way doctors and chiropractors always told me to walk! My sister had to go to a specialist for a while because she toe walked as a kid.

Running is totally different...but for a walk? I can't imagine leading with the ball of your foot!

To me, toe walking means walking just on the balls of your feet. I have a friend who does this, he isn't autistic, and he's told me why like 3 times but I can't remember. I think it's a muscle thing.

But striking ball first (to me) means that is what touches the ground FIRST, not that it's the ONLY thing that touches the ground.

It's a great way to walk silently. Stalking something you'd walk toe first because it's a softer strike therefore no noise to warn your target. (I work at a martial arts dojo, we do a lot of stalking)

Heel strike is bad when you're running.

I walk however is efficient for getting from point A to point B. I really don't have a pattern lately. I used to be solely heel-toe when I was in marching band. When I want to be quiet walking during a class, I do a toe-heel sneak; if I need to get there at a light run, definitely toe-heel. Walking in shoes that are anything but sneaker probably similar to Sael, outer to inner but in sneakers I usually heel-toe because that's what the shoes tend to make me do.

I'm weird though, I like to walk on my toes which is a think I developed when I was obsessed with point ballet (never danced it though). When I stand around I tend to roll my feet out and balance on the outer side of my feet. It looks funky but it's a habit *shrugs*

OH I walk on the outside of my feet too, it's horrible. You can tell, it's so obvious. It's just how my feet healed after one being broken and the other having extra bones growing in it.
