My heart dog was Bruno. I posted a pic of him awhile back. His mama was my first dog. Also posted a pic of her. Well, not long after we got her, she became pregnant by some other dog *I believe it was a BC* by him "showing her the love" through our fence. It happened when I was only 4. Then we moved wayyy out into the country and assumed that we could let Goldie (the mom) run free. But no, someone we think either poisoned her or she was hit by a car. Anyway, Bruno grew with me until I was 15, nearly 4 years ago. Like becca's Bojangles, Bruno was my protector.
We think he was struck by lightning. But, he was 11 and getting pretty old. So maybe it was just age. My now fiance and I had been together for a little over a year. Maybe Bruno was sticking around just long enough to make sure that I would be "taken care of." When he saw that I would be, he left his precious body behind and is now waiting for us to come home to him.

I definetly believe you have one heart dog (I always called it my once-in-a-lifetime dog). I have loved dogs all my life and have had several but I was 39-years-old before I got my heart dog. You just know. The feelings are so much stronger. When I brought Bear home, I could physically feel myself falling in love with him. Now he is 11-years-old and I know he can't live forever, I know I will always have dogs and love them, but I just know there will never be another Bear.

I've had so many dogs while growing up and they all will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. My first golden as an adult (me) where he was REALLY all mine was Eli. Then I got Yogi (yellow lab). They both are gone now and I loved Yogi very much. But for some reason there was just this "connection" with Eli that is indescribable. He knew what I was thinking and feeling as I did him. There was this bond that was almost spiritual. It's hard to explain, but when you get it, you get it...

Also, I think your past dogs "send" new dogs to you to help ease the pain of their loss. I really think Yogi sent Hunter to me (who I rescued from a shelter when he was due to be put down). Thank goodness he had Eli as his mentor even if just for almost a year. Eli taught him house rules and how to be a good dog. Bless Eli... :(

I think that is so true, EliN . . . you can almost figure out which one sent the next one sometimes. Although I KNOW little Bimmer was sent by committee :p
