How do you know when it's okay to stop worrying?

I'm starting to think that Lowla has the not going in the house thing figured out. She's learned to hold it much much longer and now seems to prefer to only go when she really needs to rather than every few hours out of habit. It's been 2 weeks since she's had an accident, and the one she had two weeks ago only happened because she was weak, lathargic, and disorientedfrom a mange dip. We've also since moved and she hasn't had a single accident in the new house yet and it's much much much larger than our apartment. I figured she would probably have accidents because of the stress of moving. She's almost 5 months old. When is it okay to relax?

I didn't leave Kona out of her crate until she was about 1, and even then it was a mistake. She ate my couch :p

Now she is closer to the age of two, I am more comfortable leaving her out, but I never leave her out of her crate for more than 2-3 hours. If we plan on being gone longer, we will definitely crate her. We often just leave her crate door open to go in and out as she pleases, and she hardly even sleeps in it anymore.

Actually, it's a good point, do you use a crate? if not, what do you mean by 'relax'? If you mean not worry about accidents anymore, my second pup was housebroken by 5 months so it's definitely possible.

I only used a crate for maybe a week, I just watched her like crazy otherwise and at night she slept in the bed with us and wouldn't go in the bed and was scared to jump down from it. By relax I mean I don't have to follow her all around and constantly be checking where she is and what she's doing. Hmm, well I guess if she's still accident free by 6 months I'll call her housebroken for good. I guess until then I'll just let my guard down slightly.

I would say by 5-6 months I trusted Wrigley enough that I could go to the bathroom or go get something in the other room without crating him or taking him with me. By a year or so I felt confident with him being in another room the whole time he's out or whatever without accidents. It seems like around 4-5 months I tried to let Wrigley have free reign and then you have an accident or two and it's such a disappointing setback LOL
