One of my dogs will be turning 5 next week. We always celebrate with a can of wet dog food mixed in with her meals during the day and quality time at the beach. Chewy loooooves the water. Not swimming, just lounging in the shallows.

Lola usually gets a day full of playing and running and general merry-making.

Anyway, how do you guys celebrate? Low key or over the top?

Nothing much at all really.

He doesnt know its his bday, or understand. we do what we would normally do, go swimming, hiking, go to a friends to play with their dogs, go to the dog park, hop int he car and drive some where until we find a new place to hike/swim ect. Blaze does somthing "exciting and fun" pretty much every day. So every day is this dogs bday, he is spoiled rotten already lol.

I do give him a bunch of "junk" for his bday dinners. I just rummage through the fridge find left overs of stuff, and slap it all together.

His last birthday (may 1st) was the day we do agility class. So we brought in a bunch of treats for all the dogs to help celebrate his 7th bday.

Tons of food, this year. Usually we take a special hike or trip to the pet store (or both, lol) but Daisy's not supposed to be moving much. So lots of designer biscuits from our fav pet shop :) We even had granola treats shaped like Daisys hehe

For his gotcha day Uncle Fred gets a flame broiled half pound burger. With bacon. And cheese. And a candle. It is his absolute favorite thing. We do the same for Mini now, but with a much smaller burger.

I don't really do much for my dogs' birthdays. Sometimes I'll use their birthday as an excuse to buy them something I've wanted to for a while (ie: Dance's new collar), but other than that, I don't really do anything different for them. Well, I do say Happy Birthday to them, LOL. No idea why... just seems like the right thing to do, regardless if they understand or not. And then I'm just grateful that I've had them for another year and hope for many more.

They get a special meal, a squeaky toy, a moo tube, and extra cuddles most of the time. Then again, they get that most weekends, so, I don't think they notice........lol

Sometimes I'll plan a special trip that they'll enjoy.

Chewy will be 6, not 5. Not sure how I got that mixed up. Anyway, for her first birthday we got her 2 cans of wet dog food and stuck a candle in each. I wish I could do something that Chewy really enjoys but because her birthday is in June and we live in Baja it is waaaaay to hot to take her favorite hike, and Chewy isn't particularly social (code for: she has no friends :( :lol-sign:). She just doesn't like playing with other dogs. Her favorite this to do is to lounge and eat good food so I try to work with that. (And chase cats, but I wouldn't call that desirable...). Unfortunately she has a vet appointment the day before her birthday. I'm glad she isn't aware of the injustice of it all. You know how you always feel when you have to do something on or directly before your birthday.... "Vacuum? On my BIRTHDAY?!" :D

I make them cakes out of meat. Here's Daisy's 1st bday, and she's giving me a high 5 for a job well done.

And her 3rd bday:

I feel so---inadequate! A meat cake? I never would have thought of that. Mine get a biscuit, some lovin', and a "happy birthday." They seem to like it.

I often don't realize it's their birthday until sometime later in the year. I lose track of exactly how old they are and have to look at their pedigrees. If I do think of it, I don't do much differently than usual. We probably go for a fun hike. They frequently get some extra good stuff in their food. And they always get love and attention. They don't get the concept of birthdays and I am forgetful. So, that combination sort of speaks for itself. LOL. But I am in perpetual celebration of the day they were born and appreciate them every day of their life. So, I guess I celebrate their existance every day.

We celebrate the dogs' birthdays in the last week of November because their birthdays are both in that week. Convenient really. Not much is done differently, but I do try and do something different every year food wise. One year we went through the McDonald's drivethrough (the dogs came) and Gracie got her burger stuck under the washing machine. :rofl1: We retrieved it for her. And they got to lick our sundae containers clean... but they usually get that. One year we made a meat cake and one year they got a slice of pizza.

Yeah, not the best to be giving the dogs pizza and cheeseburgers... but it is but once a year. :D

And yes, I may use it as an excuse to buy some doggy related item. Edit - but I use some pretty weak excuses to justify my doggy spending habits, so I don't know why I bother anymore. Lol.

Of course this birthday thing is more for our benefit than the dogs, but we always have a laugh.

I'm fairly forgetful, so usually with apologies, a "Belated" Birthday present (new collar, food and water dishes, etc.) and scrambled eggs for dinner.
