Hi,
I have a new pup, a black lab mix, about 10weeks old now. We have a nice big yard where he can play, and we have decided to raise him outside. Everything is going great, except for the fact that he decided he was going to knock over a priceless plant which we acquired, and managed to chew it up! We are furious over this, but we've come to an understanding that it is not the dog's fault since he doesn't know any better.

How can we tell him that a plant is not a chew toy? He is teething, so we bought him a lot of toys and they're lying around all over the yard. While we could put up a fence around the little plant garden are, it would be a real eye sore, not to mention we like the placement of the plants on the patio.

It's real hard to catch him in the act especially because he only does it when he knows no one else is outside. What can we do?

Will the anti-chew spray work its magic? If he keeps on chewing up valuble plants, we're going to have a real big problem. He's already chewed up 2 irreplaceable plants so far. What can we do?

sounds like a bored puppy.

You'd go through a lot of bitter apple spray from the sounds of it.

I'd put up a fence

A lab puppy, how cute! My lab puppy used to lay underneath my stringbean plants for shade. Then when she was done, she would take a branch off and run around the yard. The only way I knew of stopping her was to put a fence around my garden.
