Spanky is named after the little rascals. I could just tell he was the type of dog who was going to get himself into a whole lot of trouble.

Bandit came with his name. He didn't know it and it took a long time to teach it to him but I already knew him before he became mine so I was just use to it.

Max came with his name and knew it well. one the way to the rescue we were thinking about naming his something like Clifford or Benji (I was four and my brother was six) luckily we didn't name him Clifford lol. But once we got there the woman said his name was max, we could change it if we wanted but we decided not to.

Carlie, when we adopted her, came with the name Tink. I guess she had a collar on that said Tink on it when she was rescued from the pound. We tried calling her by the name of Tink, but it just sounded so bad plus it's Paris Hilton's dog's name which I don't even want to begin to think about. So we named her Carlie because I've always said that when I get a male dog I'll name him Charlie, but since she was a girl, Carlie sounded better!

When i was in college, i said i was going to get an alcohol menagerie. I had a parakeet named buddy (inherited from my grandmother) and was going to get him a friend called wieser, but bud died. Then i thought of getting another pair and calling them captain and morgan.

I wanted an Irish wolfhound to name Jameson (after Jameson's Irish Whiskey) and thought about naming a couple of cat's Glen and Livet for my father. (his favorite brand of scotch)... When i told my bf at the time all this, he thought it was hilarious "yeah, get a pitbull and call him Jager"

When i got my cat, I was just about to move back to west virginia from Pennsylvania. I'd only had cats when i lived in VA (south of the mason dixon line) and the cat was sort of my consolation prize from a break-up. So i went with Southern Comfort.

Jager was "Otto" at the pound. He's supposedly part german shepherd, so i wanted to keep with a german liquor name, and i sort of liked that old idea ben had. Thus, Jagermeister.

My next dog will probably be Smirnoff. "Mir" for short. it really depends on the type of dog though. if it was absolutely insane, it might have to be Cuervo. Or if it's really mellow, Bacardi...

I had a big list of potential names, and "Auggie" was on there - at the time James Augustine was still playing for the Illini Men's Basketball team and "Auggie" was his nickname, and I thought it would make a cute dog name.
Well, when we went to pick out which puppy I wanted, Auggie's brother was "Little Dee" - after Dee Brown, who was the other big Illini star at the time (well, I say big, but he's only 6' in sneakers, hence the "Little" Dee...)

It was kinda just like fate.
The other big contender names-wise at the time was "Harley."

To make a long story short, I had wanted my first Toller to be called Tango for some reason, which is how Tango got her name. She isn't all Toller, but it ended up fitting her anyway.

Dance got her name because I'd wanted something that would go with Tango but couldn't think of any other dance themed names. I also wanted something I'd probably never run into again, so Dance is was.

Grady initially came from Arkansas. We wanted a kind of southern name. We came up with Grady.

Aspen was a former house-sitting job. His name was ESPN then. I hated that name for several reasons. One, I hated it & two, I hated what it represented in his former life.

Trucker will probably be renamed once he's rehomed.

We bought Leo on impulse from a guy with his son and a wagon-full of puppies in the park. We were there for a concert in the park, then we had planned to go to Leonardo's Restaurant here in town afterwards. Well, since suddenly we found ourselves with a tiny little bundle of fur, we could no longer go to the restaurant. So, we named the dog Leo after the restaurant we couldn't go to.

The following week, we did get out to Leonardo's Restaurant. It was pretty good.

The Bluedawg looked sad in the first pic I saw of him.

Perror Verde, I asked for suggestions when I got her and just ran down the list and Verde was the first name she responded too. That and I wanted to stick to the color theme.

Puccini's Tosca was so beautiful she looked just like a painting of Mary Magdaline, which was really a painting of herself. Or some such thing.
