I like to keep it cold at night, but I'm afraid of it getting too cold for my year-old yellow lab to sleep comfortably. Does their coat keep them warm through most conditions, or do I need to worry about how cold the room gets at night? Thanks for your help!

If you're warm enough, then I am PRETTY sure your dog will be :D

I have blankets on my dogs beds and sometimes they will get underneath them if they're cold. We keep our house cool at night also...Jackson Browne sleeps with us under the covers, so it's never an issue for him. :lol-sign:

You have no need to worry! You would get cold before your dog. ;)
My labs swim in icy water in the winter time. :D

yes, Labs, are very weather resistant, and can stand about any weather, if that is correct.

Labs are bred for the cold. No worries, your baby will be just fine.
that is just not true..a labrador will adjust to weather conditions, but not overnight. If they are a house dog and kept warm their "breeding" makes no difference if they are put in a cooler climate. If they are kept in the cool climate all the time of course their coats will thicken. As long as your dog has a place to go where there is shelter, like your bed, and under the covers:D they will be plenty warm. If they get too warm they will seek out a cooler spot. I had one dog that was a "hot dog" and he couldn't stand the heat and never wanted under the covers. He was part lab. About 60 degrees was his ideal temp. But he is the acception to all the labs i have known.

I wouldn't subject a dog to extreme weather conditions for long periods of time either!.... But a lab is built to withstand cold water for short periods of time and they do just fine.
As for a young, healthy, dog.... I am certain a lab would not get cold indoors in a room even if it felt cold to a person. I am assuming a person wouldn't keep a room at 35 or 40 degrees. :)

My labs do live inside with me... and I like it to be warm.... but they still have the ability to hunt in icy waters for short periods at a time and not show any ill effects.
They also love to roll and play in the snow and they always last longer than I do. :D

My shepherd seems to be more sensitive to the cold than my labs.

I would also like to say... I don't agree with keeping any dog in extreme or uncomfortable conditions. ;)

if you can live comfortably with the cold temp than your dog certainly should be able to. unless he has no hair, then he might need a sweater. But labs tend to have two coats. The undercoat keeps them dry and warm. I'm sure your pup is quite comfortable. The only thing you should have to worry about is if it is too warm.
