i was watching a commercial this morning for Purina Dog Chow. The commercial ended with them saying that "feeding Purina Dog Chow can extend a dogs life for up to two years". how can they say that on TV?

My first question was...as opposed to what? not feeding your dog at all? We all know Purina is not a high quality dog food.

I just thought the whole commercial was misleading!

Ugh, I know! Watching that commercial made me feel sick too. Seriously, you have a point. 2 years compared to WHAT?

most commercials are "misleading" its just a ways to get others to buy there product, although they cannot prove it because all dogs die at a different age not at all depending on their food.same with other food commercials even mcdonalds(even though its not dog food)they hier special people to make there food look good so people buy it but the truth is that they dont even fully cook.they cook it on each side for 20 secounds paint it a dark brown color

I know that the ingredients have changed now and I no longer feed , but I swore by Purina for over 40 years . I still get their club mag. and see the research they do . If they fed pups from the same litter Purina and other brands , I can see how they can make the statement .

The dogs I had as a kid were fed Purina. They lived to be 16 and 18 yrs. old. My Lab made it to 14 eating that or something like that for about half her life before I found out about premium foods, at which time we switched and she ate the good stuff for the remaining years. Pretty decent life spans for their breeds, I'd say. I think premium foods are vastly better and feed those now, but I am not that alarmed by some of the other foods.

my little Cairn lived to be 16 eating Purina. he sure was a healthy little devil til about 6 mos. prior to passing...he then had arthritis pretty bad. not saying it's good food either, but there are worse out there. as for marketing...it is funny how they can make those claims. it's because nobody makes a fuss about it, I think. people generally don't fret over dog food. I've had many, many people tell me I'm crazy for spending 'all that money' on dog food. if only more people would care, huh?
