As some of you may know I work at a dog daycare.

So, tonight I get a email from my boss that one of the regular daycare dogs, Buddy, will not be coming back as she is giving him back to Petland (first  ) however, keep his daycare days as she will be getting a new puppy!!!:mad:

This dog, I think, is around 2 and he does have his fair share of issues, men, and leash reactive being the first ones. He is fearful, however really is a big sweetheart once he gets to know you. Very, very pretty dog .. a shepherd mix as the looks of it. What did disappoint me was my boss' apathy about the situation. I really want to prevent this poor soul from going back to Petland. His adoption will not be easy, I can see him being so freaked out getting worse every day, and he'll just rot in their kennels. So, as unprofessional as it is, I did contact her over facebook. Due to that I'm at home, and she will be dropping him off there tomorrow. Basically, I offered to take him off her hands. However I cannot keep this dog, I'm moving to ontario in september. Anyone want a shepherd mix if this works out?

Hmm its bad for the dog.. but good in a way. If people dumped their dogs back on petstores that might make them a little more accountable for the dogs they sell.

He does look like a german shepherd.. but at the same time doesn't. He may be purebred but who knows.. he's from Petland. I may have a photo in my small collection of photos of daycare dogs that I took one day.. I'd have to upload and see.

I don't know it would make Petland more accountable however that would be a bad place for buddy to stay in, and if petland did adopt him out they'd just sell him for 400 dollars. (Which, is what their "rescue" and rehome dogs go for.) Maybe 200 if they were desperate enough. She is following the contract as the dogs have to go back to pets for life if they cannot keep the animal. This is very sudden since if she had told us I would've been able to set up some connections with rescues.

She's calling me after 9 or so so we'll see.

That is really sad. I mean, I know it is heartbreaking to have a dog with issues but what did she expect getting a dog from Petland? I didn't even know that Petland sold mixed breeds. I mean, I guess they do with all the designer breeds. I hope this poor guy can find a good loving home that will patiently help him through his issues.

lets hope she isnt going to petland for the new pup :( i feel so bad for this dog..
Kenya has problems.. doesnt mean im gonna go trade her in for kenya 2.0!
if you can get pictures, please do. and more info on the behavior issues

At the doggy daycare kenya goes to, the "day passes" stick with the dog, so if the dog is rehomed all your day passes go to the new owners. she only goes about once a week :( its pretty expensive i wish i could do more

Thats so sad :(

Buster has issues and I know he'll never be an easy dog but I've had him for 6 years, you don't dump friends.

They still have to look after him/feed him etc. And is you said he isn't likely going to get adopted out.

If pet stores had to look after all the messed up dogs they sold things would change.

They'll do/say anything to get your business.

My bet is they take the dog hold onto it a few weeks and then dump it at the pound. I doubt they are actually trading her the dog. Even if they give her half off they are still making out.

Our petland did used to have one cage devoted to a rescue. Haven't for a long time but these were dogs the vet hooked up with them would find and vet out and put up there.

No I'm not sure where she is getting her pup, but petland doesn't trade for old dog for a new pup.

Just a very bad situation.. erg.

What a sad story for the dog. I'm sure he'll be dropped off at the pound not long after this...no such thing as trading dogs at Petland.

I'm surprised petland takes back dogs period after 48 hours. Cider is a petland pup. My roomate was her second home. Another family had her for just under 48 hours and decided they didn't want her and returned her for full purchase price. When my roomie bought her she was discounted.. as she was used merchandise. *pukes*
