Ugh.

I am so mad, I order dog food from this company that delivers to my door well three weeks ago I put in an order (I feed FROMM which is sorta hard to find).

Since the pup has a sensitive stomach I feed duck and potato.

Well anyway after a week the company calls and says they are out of the food and it will be late... then I never hear from them... I call they say oops we are still out...GRR.

So I find a store where the guy says he can order it and have it Tues (this past one)... I go in NO food... he says Friday (today) I go today and again NO food. Now I called like every store in NYC and no one has it in stock or can get it before the end of next week.

Since it is three weeks since I started this journey I am now 100% out of food. The only duck based food I could find was Natural Balance and I am switching to it cold turkey.

As soon as I can find FROMM I am getting him back on it obviously.

But my question is, how bad will it hurt him to switch cold turkey to this junky food for a week or so?

Thanks.

well it's not premium junky (like pedigree) but I would expect some diarrhea and maybe some vomit but mainly from the switch and not the type of food. thos results usually don't show for a while.

I switch my 5 dogs on a regualar basis, between Solid Gold, Innova, Instinct and Canidae, and I've never seen any stomach upset or diarrhea when I switch (always cold turkey,) I don't know if it's because they've been switched from day one, or if it's just because it's good food (I think it's actually because they don't get stuck on one food for more than a month, but that's my own opinion.)

Anyway, Natural Balance isn't a bad food, and if you look at dogfoodanalysis.com, it's actually rated at 4 stars, the same as Fromm, so you're not going down to dog chow or pedigree. The switch could actually be good, since it could allow you to find another food that will hopefully work, and you could give the pup a little variety. It would also eliminate a bit of stress from you if it works, so that if your supplier can't help you, you and the pup are not at their mercy.

Natural Balance and Fromm are actually on the same level, so I wouldn't worry about the switch too much.

Depending on your dog's sensitivity it shouldn't be too bad. They are equal foods in quality. Both of them good. I try to keep some samples of my dog's food for when we travel and times like this(when the store runs out). You can keep it in the freezer. I do switch between foods Canidae, Go Natural and Nature's Variety because of the store's inability to keep what we want in and I read some articles about allergies and feeding the same protein source all the time. Plain pumpkin will help with the scoots and if he really is feeling unwell I would try the cooked ground lamb and brown rice for a few days
Good Luck
