No this is not a search and rescue story but it is a true story about how I helped a lost pit bull in need. I saw this pit bull wandering around.. he was a very pretty guy so I called him. " Here boy!" was all I said before he came up to me, wagging his tail and wanting to be petted.

A few days later I saw this dog again. It was raining so I decided to bring the dog inside to keep him dry and so I could find his owner. I didn't like the idea of him just wandering around because I was afraid people would freak out if they saw him and do something bad to him.

At the time I was not allowed a dog so I kept him inside. I have linoleum in the computer room so I went to the store and bought some newspaper so he would have something to go potty on. I did find the owner and I fell in love the few days I had him. He was very loving and followed me everywhere. He was also pretty skinny and very hungry. He wagged his tail the entire time I fed him.

After I had him, I just knew I had to have a dog of my own so I talked my landlord into it. He said I could have a small dog. I had wanted a Jack Russell for a long time so I got the leftover newspaper I had bought for the pit bull and started looking.

I saw an ad that partially read: Jack Russell pups. Adorable.. must see. This was an old newspaper ( about 2-3 weeks old but decided to call anyways and see what would happen.) They had one puppy left. I came to see him and he was adorable. He was not taken very good care of, though. He had fleas and hot spots and his forehead was raw. I picked him up and he was so sweet and just wanted to be held and loved.

Anyways, I have had my Wishbone for 4 years now... he is a great little guy. He is very sweet and does not have a mean bone in his body. He is now taken well care of ( ok, he's a spoiled brat!) and well loved. If I had not taken in the pit bull I would have never found him.

If you have any stories about how you found your pet, I would love to hear them.

To make things even stranger, Wishbone is the type of Jack Russell I wanted. I wanted a dog that has a smooth coat ( Jacks come in 3 different coats- smooth, broken, and rough). Plus I liked to watch the tv show Wishbone and thought the dog that played " Wishbone" was the cutest thing. Coincidentally, I find a dog that resembles him. I heard that JRTs can be aggressive and are chewers but Wishbone is very even tempered. ( He licks the vet even after a shot). He has never been a chewer except for little things he finds like panties, pens, etc. but chewing furniture and carpets has never been an issue.

Also I wanted a dog that was active and playful but also settles down and enjoys quiet time. That fits Wishbone to a tee. He can be playful one minute but if I want to sleep until noon he will stay under the covers with me as long as I want.

He has had a lot of admirers. A lot of people say he looks just like the PBS dog. I have been stopped a few times by little kids who want to pet him. This little girl wanted me to trade him for her dog. Wishbone loves the attention, of course. He really likes kids and other dogs, too although he can get jealous if I pay too much attention to another dog.

I am making Wishbone out to be a perfect angel but of course he is not. He gets in a little mischief and he loves to bark ( although he does not bark without a reason) and I can't leave him outside very long after a rain or he will dig. But his breed loves to dig. All in all I am very pleased with him and am very proud that he is mine.

As far as kharma goes, he is my reward for looking after the pit bull. ( Only if I had a picture.. he was reddish brown and striped. Gorgeous dog!).

Most of all this story is 100 % true!!!!

Great story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you have to give up the pittbull or were you able to keep both. I don't know if I would want to have a pitbull and a small dog. That small dog may get eaten for lunch! j/k

I heard those jack russel dogs get mean when they get to be about 5-7 years old. Any truth to that? They are the cutest dogs but I like dogs that are usefull. Like ones you can use to keep people off your yard. Otherwise I would just get a cat!

A JRT at 5-7 years old is in it's prime and is far from getting cranky and crotchety from old age. As far as "getting mean" goes, they aren't "mean" by nature, but almost any animal (or person for that matter) can be made to act that way by ill treatment and/or a bad example. Dogs try to please us. If we communicate to them that we want them to be mean, they will do what they can to oblige. They do tend to reflect their owners' attitude toward life.

A fence is the best way to keep people off your yard.
