For the first few days of having my puppy he was using the pee pads, and doing quite well. Now he refuses to use the pads, or go outside. I put him directly on the pad, and do so repeatedly. Afterwords he goes into the other room and pees on the rug. What can I do to correct this?

Welcome to chaz!

Don't let him go into the other room without you supervising. If you can catch him in the act of having an accident, you can pick him up and carry him to the potty place (either outside OR potty pads), and then reward him for finishing in the right spot. If you didn't see him have an accident, then he has taught himself that peeing in the other room is a good thing to do, and you're going to have to undo that learning.

When you see him about to go on the rug, place him right away to his potty pad, or wherever his area is. Do this everytime to make him learn where the right spot is. As early as possible you have to correct his attitude of peeing in another place.
