We were getting on fine house-training our puppy (wire-haired foxy); then unfortuinately we had to go away for six weeks and she went to stay with her breeder. She was kept in a large comfortable pen, but unfortunately got used to urinating and defecating wherever and whenever she wanted. We have got her back, with a system of rewards, to asking to be let out during the day, when she does her business, and that's fine. The problem is at night. We take her out at about 11 in the evening, and she usually performs; but then we either have to get up at 5 a.m. and let her out, or we find a puddle or a mess in the morning. She occasionally lasts out until 7, but not often. It doesn't seem to be a bladder problem; she simply seems to wake up and decide to 'go'! She's now 11 months old. Any advice would be very welcome, as five hours sleep a night isn't really enough for us! Many thanks, Derek.

If she needs to pee, then she will pee.

What about putting a bit of paper in a corner as her 'designated pee area'.
