OK, so Hudson has been doing extremely well with his obedience commands, but I hadn't been able to get him to stop pulling on the lead! If he pulled I'd stop walking, he'd come back to my side, I'd walk again, and he'd go right back to pulling way out in front. Heeling was not getting anywhere either...

So, I was at my favorite supply shop today, and I happened to mention this to the owner. He told me about a harness I had never heard of called the "Sense-ible" harness. It was $20, but he said to try it for a few days, and even if it gets dirty he'll give me a refund if it doesn't work. He told me it's completely humane, comfortable for the dog, but he gets a much better signal of what you want him to do than with any other harness on the market. Apparently it's based on horse equipment.

Well, so I bought it figuring I could always return it if it turned out to be stupid. But, guess what?! Things are going fantastic! Hudson was a bit annoyed at first and kept trying to eat the leash :) but after a couple of "No's" from me, he stopped that. You should see him walking right next to me like an angel!

I'll post back here if anything changes. I'm wondering if once he gets used to it, he'll go back to pulling, but so far so good... He is much more attentive and responsive.

Here's the info on the harness:

I have heard of those. There are also things called "Sporn" harnesses that keep dogs from pulling. They are a godsend when you have a large, untrained dog to handle!

What makes this harness so different is that it clips in the front over the chest. At first you think it's going to be awkward, but that's only because you're picturing the dog walking out in front which he shouldn't do! Hudson learned immediately that walking right next to me is the only way to not feel any pressure on his muscles.

What I don't get is why does a dog not respond to pressure on his neck from a collar the same way? Hudson was straining out in front so badly, it was making me nervous about hurting his neck. Now because of this slight pressure on his leg muscles he stays put??? Crazy dogs!
