I haven't posted pictures since his first "guess that puppy" thread, so I thought I'd share his first time in harness. He's 6 months old tomorrow so I thought I'd let him run around in it for a while to see how he does.

As you can see, he was totally fine at first. Which kind of surprised me, as it's kind of heavy and a little too big so some of the straps and buckles were flapping around. But the goal is for him to be totally comfortable with it on, so we have to start somewhere.

You guys still see hound or pointer? I totally don't see it.

Then he was all.. "wait a minute... WTH??"....

So I threw the ball, which makes everything better.

And of course, a photo-op isn't complete without a couple of headshots. :p

My favorite for today. :D

Beautiful dog, maybe some foxhound in there somewhere? For some reason that is what he reminds me of.

I was thinking it was a type of pulling harness. Where did you get it from if you don't mind my asking. It looks like a nice harness, are you going to be doing carting with this pup?

It's a nylon siwash harness from Dog Works.

I also bought my shafts and the wagon conversion from them. I have a nice wooden radio flyer set up.

I do plan to cart with him. My last dog, who is now retired, only had about 2 years in harness before I had to retire her due to an ACL injury (totally unrelated to carting), so we didn't get to do much.

I also want to go to a weight pull event just to see what it's like, but I love, love, love carting. It's so much fun. And my daughter thinks it's a hoot too (and the neighbors too!).

I went to a 'fun' weight pull a couple of weeks ago; it was pretty interesting. I was really impressed with a staffordshire terrier who easily walked away with over 1000 lbs. (wheeled cart). That dog was one big muscle and darned handsome!

I totally see pointer; a friend of mine had a retired show pointer, and something in the body shape, especially the structure of the hind end, just looks like it to me. Whatever he is, he is growing into a lovely dog!

He could easily have a mix of some Pointer, maybe some APBT . . . who knows what else. There could be all sorts of things in there. He's a great looking dog, though, whatever went into his mix :)

Weight pull is a fun sport for any size dog. My friend, Dina, pulls with Todd, her Rat Terrier. He came away weekend before last pulling the most weight to his body weight ratio, something over 30X his own weight.

Wow!! That's awesome. I rigged up a plastic wagon for my jack russells to pull, but it doesn't have shafts or breaks so they hate it and I think I ruined it for them. I've since always wanted to get a small cart for them with real shafts but I don't know if it would be worth the investment if they're going to hate it. I think Rhino would be really good at it, strength wise, he's a strong solid little dog with lots of grit.

But they LOVE riding in the big wooden wagon. Sometimes they're lazy russells.

I also see boxer in him. He plays like a boxer and uses his front feet/legs like a boxer. I also see APBT, so those are my two guesses. I just don't see the hound or pointer (possibly because I don't want to :p ).

Thanks for the compliments guys, I think he's so handsome too. I know I'm totally biased, but I love him to death. You know how sometimes you have a (what I call) "heart dog" where you're almost like soul mates? I never thought I'd ever meet another one like my Kali Girl (she's the senior who's now retired, she's 12), but there's just something about Bennie. Don't get me wrong, I love my Russells, but Kali is so special that I just can't put it into words. Bennie was supposed to be my husband's dog, but we all know that's never going to happen. :D
